About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Freelance Automation Engineer with strong expertise in Siemens control systems to support our machine-building and industrial automation projects. You will be responsible for developing, programming, and commissioning control systems that bring our custom machinery to life.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, program, and test PLC, HMI, and drive systems using Siemens TIA Portal (S7-1200/1500, WinCC, etc.)
Support the full automation lifecycle — from concept and design through to commissioning and troubleshooting
Integrate sensors, actuators, and motion systems into automated machines
Collaborate closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure system functionality and reliability
Provide technical documentation, testing procedures, and operator training when required
Participate in on-site commissioning and debugging (occasional travel may be required)
Requirements:
Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
Minimum 3 years of experience with Siemens PLC and HMI systems (TIA Portal essential)
Proven track record in machine-building or industrial automation environments
Good understanding of electrical schematics, industrial communication (Profinet, Profibus), and safety systems
Fluent in English (spoken and written); Dutch or French is a plus
Based in Belgium or available to collaborate with Belgian-based teams
Nice to Have:
Experience with motion control, servo drives, or robotic integration
Familiarity with Beckhoff, Allen-Bradley, or other PLC platforms
Knowledge of CE marking and machine safety standards
