The Antwerp Research Institute for the Arts (ARIA) in the Faculty of Arts has the two following part-time (twice 10%) vacancies: professor (senior academic staff) in the field of artistic research in music.
Position
As a member of the Senior Academic Staff (Dutch: Zelfstandig Academisch Personeel, ZAP), you will contribute to two of the University of Antwerp’s three core tasks: research (80%) and services (20%). Your role may also include organisational and managerial aspects.
Research
* You expand high-quality scientific research in and about the arts, more specifically in the field of music.
* You participate in ongoing research programmes.
* You acquire and manage (inter)national research funding.
* You publish in international journals with peer review and write, edit or collaborate on publications that are published by major academic publishers.
* You develop an international artistic-scientific network.
Services
* You play a role in the provision of both academic services and services to society, within the institution and externally.
* You participate, where needed, in the boards and committees of ARIA and possibly of the AP University College (as a representative of the University of Antwerp).
Leadership
* Your leadership style is motivational and coaching. This includes being attentive to your employees’ growth and development.
Profile
* You hold a PhD in the arts in the field of music or in another relevant discipline.
* You hold or will hold by the start of the appointment a position of at least 60% in an academic programme of a School of Arts in Flanders.
* You have affinity for and experience with the context of research in the arts as conducted at the Antwerp University Association (the Schools of Arts and the ARIA research group at the University) and are able to situate your research within this context.
* You have built up an excellent international portfolio as an artistic researcher, including scientific publications with peer review in the field of music.
* If you do not speak Dutch, the administrative language of the university, you should be willing to obtain a CEFR B2 level of proficiency in Dutch within five years of your appointment. The University of Antwerp supports international staff members through an integration trajectory and offers tailor-made language coaching in compliance with Flanders’ statutory language regulations.
* A strong command of English is an asset as this will be the language for the acquisition of scholarships and project subsidies.
* You demonstrate leadership potential and organisational skills.
* You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
* You commit yourself to turning your work environment into an inclusive place in which diversity is appreciated and all students, including those with a special vulnerability, feel safe.
What we offer
* We offer a part-time appointment as a member of the Senior Academic Staff for a period of 3 years. Following a positive evaluation, this appointment can be renewed at the latest until 31/12/2029. The level of your appointment (assistant professor, associate professor, professor or full professor) is determined on the basis of your professional experience and academic qualifications.
* Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scales for Senior Academic Staff (ZAP) and calculated proportionally on the basis of your employment percentage.
* You receive ecocheques and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
* The planned starting date is 15 September 2026 or as soon as possible after that date.
* You do most of your work at the City Campus of the University of Antwerp, in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
