About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Principal Scientist to join a cutting-edge R&D facility in Belgium focused on next-generation battery materials, particularly nanosilicon-based anodes.
This is a senior technical leadership role, reporting directly to the CTO of an advanced materials joint venture at the forefront of sustainable energy solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving scientific innovation, lab operations, and aligning R&D with commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Roadmap Development: Lead the creation of long-term R&D strategies for nano-silicon anodes and high-performance battery materials.
* Cell Architecture & Design: Define cell chemistries, process flows, and scale-up pathways; develop robust lab infrastructure.
* Material Testing & Analytics: Design experiments and interpret test results using tools like SEM, XRD, BET, TGA, and potentiostats.
* Lab Setup & Compliance: Oversee laboratory operations, including safety compliance, equipment calibration, and process protocols.
* Innovation & IP: Identify breakthrough opportunities and support patent filings through advanced material characterisation.
* Business Enablement: Translate scientific outcomes into technical marketing tools, datasheets, and narratives for commercial teams.
* External Collaboration: Build partnerships with universities, consortia, and research labs; represent the company at conferences and panels.
* Team Mentorship: Guide junior scientists and foster a high-performance culture of scientific excellence and innovation.
MUST HAVE Qualifications:
Education:
* Graduate degree (B.Tech/BE/ME) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines.
* Ph.D. in Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering is mandatory.
Experience:
* 8–12 years of hands-on R&D experience in battery materials, conductive materials, or energy storage systems.
* Strong emphasis on anode material development.
Technical Proficiency:
* Expertise in battery chemistry, electrode/electrolyte formulation, and coin/pouch cell assembly.
* Proficient in analytical tools: SEM, XRD, BET, TGA, and potentiostats.
* Experience setting up and managing labs, including safety protocols and equipment handling.
* Business & Strategy Alignment:
* Ability to lead R&D efforts that directly support commercial product goals and customer needs.
* Strong in experimental design, data interpretation, and technical documentation.
Preferred Attributes:
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Proven track record of scientific publications, patents, or strategic collaborations.
* Familiarity with scaling lab innovations for industrial or automotive battery applications.
