Overview
The Defence Industry, Innovation and Armaments Division (D2IA) leads the development and adoption of cutting‑edge, innovative and interoperable capabilities critical to NATO’s missions. The Executive Officer (XO) supports the Assistant Secretary General (ASG) and Deputy Assistant Secretary General (DASG) in the management, operation and coordination of D2IA.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide well‑researched, substantiated advice to the ASG on policy, administrative and strategic issues.
* Ensure internal workflow produces high‑quality, fully‑staffed products for the Office of the Secretary General (OSG), committees and stakeholders.
* Maintain strong communication with the OSG, International Staff (IS) Divisions, the International Military Staff (IMS) and other NATO entities.
* Facilitate effective internal communications between the D2IA Divisional Support Section (DSS), the Front Office (FO) and all staff.
* Coordinate work with other XOs, delegations and officials on organisational matters.
* Undertake ad hoc assignments and special projects in support of ASG priorities.
* Represent D2IA in dealings with senior NATO staff and national representatives.
Qualifications and Experience
* University degree or equivalent qualification.
* At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in policy, administration and/or financial management.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritise, multitask and manage a large volume of tasks.
* Strong written and oral communication skills, capable of drafting documents for a senior audience.
* Proven experience managing, co‑coordinating and engaging a team.
* Competence in Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint or similar; training in NATO systems will be provided.
* Minimum language levels: English/French – V (Advanced) in one language and III (Intermediate) in the other.
Desirable
* Programme and project management experience in public/private sector environments.
* Experience in a major international organisation.
* Knowledge of defence industrial production, interoperability and innovation from a NATO perspective.
* Understanding of NATO structure, practices and procedures.
Compensation and Contract
Three‑year definite‑duration contract, renewable for up to three years. Maximum period of service: 6 years. Eligible for conversion to an indefinite‑duration contract during renewal, if desired.
