Associate Director (Tech, Media & Telecoms)
Global Counsel (GC) is seeking an Associate Director to support its established Technology, Media and Telecoms Practice in Brussels. The role provides the opportunity to work with a range of international clients, including some of the most prestigious companies and investors in the technology space.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a curious mind-set who can serve as a trusted adviser to businesses and investors. They will draw on their experience in business, EU institutions, or other relevant roles to provide strategic advice and support on digital policy developments in the EU, delivering results efficiently to meet client needs.
Role and responsibilities
* Provide expert, strategic, and actionable advice to GC clients on risks and opportunities related to digital policy.
* Act as the primary contact for clients and lead on account management, overseeing work from inception to completion. This includes translating complex policy issues and regulatory developments into accessible analysis for clients at various levels. Develop thought leadership pieces, advise on innovative public policy engagement approaches, and provide guidance on political strategies.
* Support the Technology, Media, and Telecoms practice and GC’s senior leadership in developing and executing business development campaigns and pitches.
* Manage junior colleagues, providing support to a talented team across GC's global offices.
* Build and maintain a network of contacts among policymakers and stakeholders at senior levels.
Skills and profile
* 8-10 years of experience working on telecom, media, and technology issues in consultancy, trade associations, corporate offices, EU institutions, or think tanks. Specific knowledge of EU cybersecurity and/or data policy is a strong asset.
* Good understanding of policymaking and decision-making processes in the EU; knowledge of national policymaking is a plus.
* Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to quickly grasp complex subjects. Commitment to analytical rigor and quality.
* A driven self-starter who works well independently and in teams.
* Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and work proactively under pressure and tight deadlines.
* Outstanding oral communication skills, capable of explaining complex issues to non-specialists.
* Previous experience managing teams or individuals.
* Excellent written English, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and impactfully. Knowledge of other EU languages is a plus.
