About the Role
As a Data Modeler at TVH, you'll be instrumental in shaping the way our organization understands and uses its data. You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust and efficient data models that support our business intelligence, analytics, and application development needs. This role requires a strong grasp of various data modeling techniques, an eye for detail, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into clear, logical, and physical data structures. You'll collaborate closely with data architects, data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure our data models are accurate, consistent, and optimize data accessibility and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Data Model Design & Development
1. Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for various business domains, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and maintainability.
2. Translate complex business requirements and source system analysis into comprehensive data models that support reporting, analytics, and operational applications.
3. Create and maintain essential documentation, including data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs), and metadata repositories.
Data Modeling Standards & Governance
4. Ensure adherence to established data modeling standards, conventions, and best practices across all data initiatives.
5. Contribute to the continuous improvement of data modeling methodologies, tools, and processes.
6. Participate in data governance initiatives, focusing on data definitions, data quality, and consistency within the models.
Collaboration & Communication
7. Work closely with data architects to ensure data models align with the overall enterprise data architecture strategy.
8. Collaborate effectively with data engineers for model implementation, ensuring efficient ETL/ELT processes and database performance.
9. Partner with data analysts and business users to understand data requirements and validate model designs.
10. Communicate complex data modeling concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, fostering a shared understanding of data structures.
Data Quality & Optimization
11. Identify opportunities to optimize data models for performance, efficiency, and data integrity.
12. Assist in defining and implementing data quality rules and validations within the model designs.
13. Support efforts to cleanse and transform data to fit the designed models, ensuring accuracy and usability.
Qualifications
14. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
15. 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Modeler or in a similar role with significant data modeling responsibilities.
16. Proven expertise in various data modeling techniques (e.g., dimensional modeling, relational modeling, ER modeling, denormalization, normalization).
17. Expert-level proficiency in SQL for data analysis, profiling, and validation.
18. Solid understanding of data warehousing principles, ETL/ELT concepts, and database management systems (relational and potentially NoSQL).
19. Experience with cloud data platforms (preferably GCP) and their database services.
20. Knowledge of metadata management principles and practices.
21. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
22. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively gather requirements and present solutions.
Preferred Skills
23. Experience with data modeling for big data environments (e.g., Data Vault).
24. Knowledge of data governance frameworks and their impact on data modeling.
25. Experience with data modeling for real-time data streaming applications.
26. Exposure to cloud-native data modeling approaches.
27. Agile/Scrum experience.
