Role Overview
As a Freelance Project Engineer – Automation, you’ll be responsible for managing automation projects across production and packaging processes. You’ll coordinate between internal departments and external automation partners to ensure technical quality, safety, and on-time project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead automation projects from design through commissioning and handover.
* Develop and review functional design specifications (FDS) and I/O lists.
* Coordinate with PLC/SCADA integrators, panel builders, and OEMs.
* Supervise FAT and SAT activities, ensuring compliance with company standards.
* Provide technical input during system integration, testing, and optimization.
* Maintain close communication with production, maintenance, and HSE teams.
* Track project milestones, documentation, and progress reporting.
Technical Environment
* PLC Platforms: Siemens S7 / TIA Portal (preferred), Allen-Bradley, or Schneider.
* SCADA Systems: WinCC, Ignition, or Wonderware.
* Drives & Instrumentation: Siemens, ABB, Endress+Hauser, IFM, etc.
* Experience with process automation (mixing, batching, filling, packaging).
* Understanding of ISA-88 / ISA-95 and industrial communication (Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
Requirements
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial / Automation / Electrical Engineering.
* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in industrial automation projects.
* Proven track record in project coordination, ideally as a freelancer or contractor.
* Strong stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
* Fluent in English and Dutch (French is an advantage).
* Willingness to travel occasionally between sites in Belgium and the Netherlands.
