As part of our Inclusion and Challenge team, we are seeking a compassionate and skilled Speech and Language Therapist to support students across all sections of the school.
This is a fixed-term position from December 1, 2025, through June 26, 2026.
Role Overview
Speech and Language Therapists at ISB are specialist educators who support students with a wide range of communication needs, from mild to intensive, across the full developmental age range. The primary responsibility of the role is to identify, evaluate, and treat speech, language, and communication difficulties, enabling students to access both curricular and social opportunities while developing essential academic and life skills.
As a key member of the multidisciplinary Inclusion and Challenge and Student Study teams, the Speech and Language Therapist also fosters deeper understanding of communication needs among colleagues, ensuring consistency and best practice across the school.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Case Management
Manage a full therapy caseload (30–40 students across all school sections).
Identify, evaluate, and diagnose speech, language, and communication disorders using a range of assessments.
Write assessment reports and share progress updates at identified intervals.
- Monitor students identified for SLT support but not currently receiving direct services.
Therapy & Intervention
Provide therapy through individual, pair, and group sessions, as well as collaboratively in classrooms.
Deliver interventions with a consistent focus on both learning and social integration.
Explore and implement assistive technology, including alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), when appropriate.
- Work with students experiencing the full range of needs: speech and language difficulties, social communication challenges, voice and resonance difficulties, and oral-motor challenges.
Collaboration & Teamwork
Act as a core member of the Inclusion & Challenge and Student Study Teams.
Collaboratively set goals and write individualized learning/support plans.
Partner with teachers to integrate proactive communication strategies into the curriculum (e.g., social communication skills, academic vocabulary, mathematical language).
- Support colleagues and lead professional learning to strengthen best practices in speech, language, and communication support.
Family & Community Engagement
Maintain close communication with parents, offering strategies to reinforce therapy goals at home.
* Promote understanding of communication needs among staff and families through consistent, evidence-based approaches.
Administration & Environment
Manage administrative tasks including scheduling and billing within school systems.
Participate actively in Inclusion & Challenge and Student Study meetings, and in cross-disciplinary planning.
Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Qualifications & Experience
Recognized qualification in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
Therapeutic experience, with confidence in supporting students with a range of special educational needs.
Experience working with children and adolescents, ideally in school settings.
Experience working with multilingual students and families.
Knowledge of a range of communication tools and strategies, such as PECS, AAC systems, personalized social narratives (e.g. Social Stories), and evidence-based behavior support strategies. Familiarity with sign-supported communication (e.g. Makaton or sign language) is an advantage.
Passion for learning and a commitment to inclusive practices aligned with ISB's mission and vision.
Excellent interpersonal skills with colleagues, students, and parents; able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Employment Status
The Speech and Language Therapist will be employed under an ISB contract. Candidates who are not EU citizens must hold a valid work permit for Belgium.
