Intro
As a Data Governance Officer, you will play a key role in shaping and enforcing the data governance framework. You'll ensure that their data assets are compliant, secure, and well-managed, promoting a culture of data excellence across the organization. This role is essential to advancing the data maturity, supporting compliance, and empowering teams with strong data literacy.
Key Responsibilities
* Data Compliance & Policy Enforcement:
Develop, implement, and maintain governance policies aligned with legal and regulatory standards (e.g. GDPR). Monitor compliance and update policies as needed.
* Data Security Oversight:
Partner with IT and cybersecurity teams to align data protection measures with governance standards. Support data classification and access control practices.
* Data Literacy & Training:
Design and deliver data literacy programs to strengthen understanding of data governance, quality, and security. Collaborate with data ambassadors and specialized teams.
* Audit & Risk Management:
Prepare for and support data-related audits. Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
* Data Maturity Advancement:
Contribute to the data maturity roadmap, assessing current capabilities and driving continuous improvement.
* Stakeholder Engagement:
Build relationships with data owners, stewards, and business leaders to ensure alignment on governance initiatives and issue resolution.
Requirements
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Data Management, Information Management, or related field.
* 3+ years' experience in data governance, compliance, or audit roles.
* Strong understanding of data governance principles, data management, and privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR).
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience with metadata management, data cataloging, and data governance tools.
* Preferred: Certifications (CDGP, CISM, CIPP, CISA), cloud data platform knowledge (e.g. GCP), and project management skills.
