YOUR TASKS
The doctoral fellow will join the BIOFRAME project, a Horizon Europe initiative coordinated by Ghent University, to co-develop a practical biosecurity framework for non-intensive animal farming. The project will develop also a bioeconomic model to help farmers quantify the financial impact of biosecurity measures. This applied research aims to improve animal health, welfare, and economic sustainability on farms. It offers excellent opportunities for collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.
The PhD researcher will be involved in:
* Project management, which includes communication and reporting among partners.
* Actively participating in developing a biosecurity framework that is tailored to farmers and their specific contexts.
* Contributing to other project activities like conducting interviews and focus groups and implementing pilot studies.
* Co-leading the dissemination and knowledge exchange work package
* Organizing training events and workshops for stakeholders.
The ultimate goal of this research is to obtain a doctoral degree.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The applicant should hold the professional as well as personal skills and qualifications as stated below:
Required Qualifications
* A Master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, or a related field.
* Very good communication skills in English (oral and written).
* Excellent personal skills and the ability to work as a team player.
Desirable Qualifications
* Working experience in international enviroments (e.g. organizations).
* Experience in project management.
* Experience with research-focused training or activities.
* Communication skills in Dutch (or willingness to learn) for farm visits in Belgium.
* Programming skills in R or other statistical software, or the willingness to acquire them.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
* We offer a full-time position as a doctoral fellow, consisting of an initial period of 12 months, which - after a positive evaluation, will be extended to a total maximum of 48 months.
* Your contract will start on December 01 2025 at the earliest.
* The fellowship amount is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member in equal family circumstances. The individual fellowship amount is determined by Team Personnel Administration based on family status and seniority.
