Job Description
Provide legal advice on a broad range of commercial law matters, including general contract law, shipping law and ship finance.
Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial contracts, including charter parties.
Manage and follow up maritime claims and related legal matters.
Handle disputes and oversee litigation and arbitration in collaboration with external counsel in Belgium and abroad.
Deliver clear, solution‑oriented legal advice to support business objectives and mitigate legal risks globally.
Act as a trusted legal business partner to internal departments and international group entities.
Occasional international travel as part of the role.
The Successful Applicant
Master’s degree in Law.
Additional qualification in maritime law and/or international study experience is an asset.
At least 2 years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or as in‑house counsel.
Solid and hands‑on knowledge of commercial law; experience in shipping law and ship finance is a strong advantage.
Fluent in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.
Accurate, detail‑oriented and eager to learn.
Strong legal‑technical background combined with the ability to provide commercially relevant advice.
Proactive, solution‑driven and resilient mindset.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal matters for non‑legal stakeholders.
Dynamic, pragmatic and stress‑resistant, able to work independently as well as in a team‑oriented environment.
