Job Overview
As QHSSE Advisor you will monitor quality, health, safety, security, and environment (QHSSE) on our civil construction sites. You will be part of a prestigious project in Evere where you will participate in a permanent project team.
Your Role
Each day you start with a site tour, wearing personal protective equipment and conversing with the site manager. You observe work, ensure safety agreements are followed, and address any safety issues diplomatically. As a prevention advisor you:
* Are responsible for QHSSE in the pre‑qualification, tender and start‑up phases on civil construction sites.
* Advise site supervisors, foremen and workers on safety and encourage them to guarantee it.
* Write instructions for the safe and correct use of new equipment and machines.
* Participate in safety training on and around our project sites.
* Act as the link between the site and the office services of Jan De Nul, using your overview and internal network to ensure smooth and safe work.
A Brief Summary of Your Duties
* Monitor safety and smoothness of works for the projects under your responsibility and consult with site and project management.
* Evaluate QHSSE risks and assist the project manager to achieve the SMART objectives.
* Prepare project‑specific documents (QHSSE implementation plan, emergency plan, inspection and testing plan) and support the project team during implementation.
* Observe and analyse safety issues that occur on a job site, log them correctly through our platform, and follow up on incidents.
* Investigate accidents on site and follow up on safety modifications to avoid similar accidents.
* Facilitate and perform QHSSE audits and inspections.
What You Need
* A bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental management, safety management, construction, mechanical engineering or a related field. Experience as an environmental coordinator, safety coordinator or prevention consultant is a plus.
* At least eight years of experience as a prevention consultant.
* Good knowledge of French and Dutch.
* Strong communication and social skills. Ability to coach and guide, and to talk to anyone appropriately.
* Team player who also works independently.
* Ability to prioritise and plan effectively to meet deadlines.
* Enjoys variety; schedule can change at short notice.
* Strong character; speaks up on unsafe situations, investigates thoroughly, and persists when faced with resistance.
* Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances on the site.
* Can work closely with site management while keeping a practical and critical eye.
