In Ghent, J&J operates CAR-T therapy facilities. The Ghent E&PS FM team manages critical installations, facilities and utilities (steam, cooling, heating, water, compressed air, high voltage, etc.) for the Ghent manufacturing hubs. The main goal is to ensure buildings and systems are available 24/7 in a safe and compliant manner. The senior facilities engineer – electrical maintenance will support the two production sites in Ghent and future expansions, based in Ghent and reporting to the facilities manager. We are seeking an experienced and technically skilled electrical maintenance engineer. This position provides technical expertise in design, programming, installation, testing and modification of modules, systems and equipment, applying electrical engineering principles and techniques. Key responsibilities and activities are described below. You will be responsible for:

Facilities Asset Maintenance

– Manage and coordinate electrical utility systems, projects, validation and on-site coordination. Interface with key contractors for service, repairs and facility/grounds agreements; ensure maintenance contracts are clear and adequate.

Work Management & Optimization

– Pursue continuous improvement, lead cost and technical improvements, collaborate with the reliability engineer for changes and improvements.

Facilities Compliance & Safety

– Maintain adherence to regulatory standards, safety and environmental requirements. Ensure activities align with QMS and close on QMS documents (audit actions, CAPAs, maintenance records, etc.). Implement EHS requirements for electrical equipment.

Asset Technology & Data Integration

– Use current electrical technologies (including IoT-enabled assets) to improve maintenance planning, reliability and data-driven decisions. Provide technical guidance and lead software and controls projects. Lead energy-saving initiatives.

Maintenance Reliability & Fundamentals

– Apply maintenance reliability concepts (root cause analysis, FMEA) to improve asset dependability and reduce downtime. Design, program, install, test and modify electrical systems in coordination with reliability engineers.

Leadership & Team Development

– Integrate with the E&PS FM CarT team; coordinate with reliability, scheduler and mechanical maintenance engineers; supervise electrical contractors for facilities projects.

System & Data Management

– Work with CMMS to track asset performance, generate reports and support strategic decisions; maintain high-quality data in CMMS.

Budget & Performance Metrics

– Manage budgets for planned and ongoing projects.

Key Relationships

– Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders; collaborate with reliability, scheduler and mechanical maintenance engineers; participate in larger projects with E&PS project delivery teams.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience; excellent technical knowledge.

Minimum 5–7 years facilities management experience in facilities, utilities and maintenance.

Experience with GxP and quality management.

Strong teamwork, relationship-building, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency with CMMS and asset management technologies, including IoT systems.

Ability to work under tight timelines; high stress resilience.

Willingness to handle peak loads during long days/weeks (shutdowns) several times per year.

Can-do attitude; highly communicative in Dutch and English; other languages are an asset.
