SAVE THE DATE: Our next webinar "Scaling climate monitoring in complex buildings" with Design Museum Brussels

A vital mission for any heritage institution is to preserve cultural objects and works of art for future generations. Ensuring a stable and correct environment for such artifacts is essential.

CHARP provides a climate monitoring platform that helps museums, libraries, and archives protect their valuable collections from environmental threats. We combine high-quality hardware (sensors that measure temperature, humidity, and light) with our own SaaS software platform, which gives conservators detailed insights and proactive alerts.

We are a spin-off from KU Leuven, with headquarters in Mechelen, Belgium, and a growing presence across Europe. Our team brings together diverse expertise software developers, engineers, business leaders, and conservation specialists, united by a passion for cultural heritage and technology.

Who you are

We are looking for a seasoned software developer with strong leadership and organizational skills. You know how to bring structure, create clarity, and keep projects on track. You thrive on setting milestones, monitoring progress, and ensuring that the team consistently delivers high-quality results.

At the same time, you’re hands-on. You enjoy rolling up your sleeves, writing code, reviewing pull requests, and building features yourself. You understand that in a startup environment, leading by example means not only guiding the roadmap but also contributing directly to the product.

You are a builder of products, teams, and momentum: someone who motivates others, reports clearly to management, and ensures strategy turns into execution.

In this role, you will

* Own the software & app development roadmap and turn it into clear milestones and deliverables.
* Combine leadership with hands-on coding: designing, building, and shipping features yourself.
* Guide projects to completion by balancing technical depth with structured planning.
* Transform customer insights into actionable features that deliver real value.
* Champion user experience, ensuring that our software and mobile apps are intuitive and impactful.
* Lead, motivate, and inspire the team, creating alignment, focus, and accountability.
* Report clearly and transparently to management on progress, risks, and achievements.
* Balance vision with pragmatism, delivering reliable solutions step by step.

What we’re looking for

* Proven experience in online application and mobile app development, ideally in SaaS environments.
* Strong understanding of user experience principles and the ability to embed them into product development.
* A track record of leading teams and delivering products from concept to release, with clear milestones.
* Solid technical background with tools such as Node.js, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, InfluxDB, Python, and Docker—or similar technologies.
* Experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
* Bonus: interest in hardware, IoT, or embedded systems.

Why you’ll want to work with us

* A pivotal role in shaping the future of CHARP’s platform and impact.
* The opportunity to lead with vision while staying hands-on with code.
* A supportive, warm team culture that values respect, growth, and balance.
* The chance to work on meaningful challenges at the crossroads of technology and cultural heritage.
* Flexibility to choose the tools you need to excel.
* An environment where learning flows both ways—we’ll expect you to teach us as much as you’ll learn.
* Language: English is fine, Dutch is a plus.
* Education: BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
* Equal opportunity: We value merit, potential, and fit above all.

Sounds like a fit?

Ready to help us bring structure, build great software, and deliver technology that protects cultural heritage for generations to come?
