Job DescriptionFor a long-term project in the public sector (EU Digit 2030 KPM project), we are looking for several experienced COBOL Developers (m/f/d) with a focus on mainframe modernization and transformation of existing applications.Start: July 1, 2026 Duration: 24 months (long-term) Workload: 100% Location: Brussels (on-site for approx. 6 months, then remote possible) Language: English (project language), German/French/Dutch are a plusResponsibilitiesFurther development and maintenance of existing COBOL-based mainframe applicationsSupport in the transformation and modernization of the application landscape toward cloud-based platformsClose collaboration with the Head of IT Operations and international development teamsAnalysis of existing systems and identification of optimization potentialDevelopment and customization of programs in the IBM mainframe environmentIntegration and connection of legacy systems to modern architecturesConducting code reviews, testing, and error analysisParticipation in agile projects (Scrum / Agile)Support in migrating applications to modern technologies (e.G., Azure-based platforms)RequirementsSeveral years of experience in COBOL developmentStrong knowledge of the IBM mainframe environmentExperience with SQL and DB2 databasesKnowledge of Azure DevOps or comparable toolsExperience with agile working methods (Scrum / Agile)Ideally knowledge of VB.NET and/or C#Experience working with complex legacy systemsAnalytical thinking and a structured way of workingTeamwork skills and strong communication abilities in an international environmentNice to HaveExperience in the banking or financial sectorKnowledge of regulatory topics such as Basel III or IFRS 9Experience with modernization projects (legacy → cloud / microservices)If you are interested, we look forward to receiving your profile including your hourly rate and availability.
