In the context of the Flemish Government, ATOS is looking for a Solution Architect who is able to understand functional and business needs and translate them into pragmatic, implementable technical solutions .
The primary focus is on custom-built applications (backend and frontend), working closely with development teams and customer stakeholders. Experience with non‑functional requirements is expected, but always with a practical, delivery-oriented mindset .
Customer / Consultancy focus Understand business and functional needs of clients and translate them into concrete technical solutions ;
Advise customers on solution options and support the translation of needs into realistic implementation approaches ;
Contribute to the definition and alignment of solution architectures within the broader context of the customer environment;
Work closely with customer stakeholders, users, and project teams, building trust through clear communication & sound judgement ;
Interact with a variety of stakeholders in a public‑sector context, including functional leads and project sponsors;
Explain and defend architectural choices in a clear & pragmatic way ;
Be able to negotiate trade‑offs between scope, cost, quality, and time;
Actively support solution choices that improve business processes, innovation, or efficiency;
Guide customers through change by explaining the impact of architectural decisions;
Maintain a learning mindset and stay up to date with relevant technologies and patterns;
Collaborate in multi‑disciplinary teams and share knowledge with developers and fellow architects;
Coach and support developers or junior architects where relevant;
Be a team player with a collaborative attitude.
Technical focus Design and document solution architectures aligned with functional needs and project constraints;
Support the implementation of architectures covering application, integration, and deployment aspects;
Experience with middleware and modern architectures such as API gateways, API management, microservices, containers;
Contribute to alignment between business, application, and technical architecture without owning enterprise‑wide governance;
Support definition of non‑functional requirements (performance, availability, security, maintainability);
Familiar with architecture methods and modelling techniques (e.g. TOGAF concepts, ArchiMate, UML) at a practical level ;
Experience working in agile and DevOps contexts (Scrum, SAFe exposure, CI/CD tooling);
Take security aspects into account in solution design (authentication, authorization, logging, confidentiality);
Experience with public, private, or hybrid cloud solutions; container platforms (e.g. Kubernetes) are a plus.
Who are you? An experienced hands‑on solution architect or senior engineer with architectural responsibilities;
Comfortable working close to development teams and project delivery;
Experienced in complex application landscapes, without necessarily operating at full enterprise‑strategy level;
Able to structure problems and propose workable solutions rather than theoretical models;
Strong communication skills; fluent in Dutch (mandatory)
Customer‑oriented, pragmatic, and solution‑driven;
Motivated to support teams and customers in achieving concrete results.
