Position: Solutions Architect (B2B / Freelancer Contract) Engagement: NATO Project Role Overview We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Solutions Architect to support a NATO engagement, providing architectural leadership and technical direction for mission‑critical digital products. The selected professional will guide cross‑functional teams in designing scalable, secure, and resilient architectures that align with NATOs digital transformation objectives. This role involves overseeing complex system integrations, evaluating emerging technologies, and ensuring that architectural decisions balance agility, performance, and long‑term sustainability. You will collaborate with developers, engineers, and stakeholders across multiple domains, applying Agile and DevSecOps practices to deliver robust, future‑ready solutions for NATOs operational environments. Key Responsibilities Provide architectural leadership and technical oversight for the design and integration of NATO digital platforms and enterprise systems. Define, document, and maintain architectural blueprints, including risk assessments, trade‑off analyses, and implementation strategies. Lead the development of software and hardware architectures, ensuring scalability, resilience, and alignment with mission requirements. Mentor cross‑functional development teams in applying architectural principles, design patterns, and best practices. Collaborate with engineering and product teams to define optimal technology stacks supporting Agile and DevSecOps methodologies. Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend their integration to improve performance, agility, and operational readiness. Design and advise on Identity and Access Management (IAM) patterns to support secure and federated authentication. Promote the adoption of architectural modeling standards (UML, ArchiMate, BPMN) and associated tools (Enterprise Architect, Archi, ARIS, XMLSpy, etc.). Align technical solutions with NATOs compliance, interoperability, and cybersecurity standards. Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, supporting informed decision‑making. Balance short‑term mission needs with long‑term architectural sustainability and technical debt management. Required Skills & Experience Minimum 4 years of professional experience in software and/or hardware architecture, including hands‑on design and system integration. Proven experience leading cross‑functional technical teams and mentoring developers in architectural best practices. Strong understanding of design patterns, architecture frameworks, and modern development paradigms. Experience evaluating and integrating emerging technologies into operational systems. Demonstrated expertise in Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution design and implementation. Experience working in Agile DevSecOps environments with CI/CD practices. Proficiency in developing comprehensive technical documentation, including risk and impact assessments. Familiarity with architectural modeling standards (UML, ArchiMate, BPMN) and tools (Enterprise Architect, Archi, ARIS, XMLSpy, etc.). Strong ability to translate complex technical issues into clear, actionable recommendations for diverse audiences. Excellent collaboration and communication skills across multidisciplinary and multicultural teams. Language Requirement: High proficiency in English (C1 or higher) both written and spoken. Preferred Qualifications Certifications in TOGAF, AWS/Azure Solution Architecture, or related architecture frameworks. Experience in NATO, defense, or government digital transformation projects. Background in cloud‑native and microservices architectures. Knowledge of zero‑trust architectures and modern cybersecurity frameworks. Practical experience integrating architecture governance into Agile/DevSecOps delivery pipelines.
