Overview
At Toyota Motor Europe in Zaventem, this internship focuses on developing innovative acoustic solutions for quieter vehicle cabins. The intern will research sustainable acoustic materials, design KPIs and measurement procedures, build simulation models, and perform NVH testing to improve cabin isolation and acoustic performance for future Battery Electric Vehicles.
Team & Division
TME R&D centre plans, develops and supports vehicles for the European market. The “NV & Driveability” team within the Vehicle Performance Engineering division is responsible for vehicle NVH according to EU customer expectations.
Project
In this internship, you will explore cutting‑edge technologies and methodologies related to acoustic materials to develop a more sustainable and efficient acoustic package for our vehicles. The focus is on minimizing weight of acoustic components while supporting environmental goals.
Responsibilities
* Develop measurement procedures and KPIs to assess isolation levels and sense of enclosure within the car cabin.
* Investigate the latest technologies to achieve these targets using active and passive methods.
* Collaborate closely with partners to study new technologies, focusing on acoustic performance, weight, and sustainability.
* Contribute to the development of virtual models to evaluate the impact of proposed technologies on vehicle acoustic performance.
* Perform acoustic testing in our anechoic chamber and on the test track to measure NVH performance of proposed technologies using prototype samples.
* Assist in developing future acoustic package strategies for Toyota’s Battery Electric Vehicles, with a strong emphasis on weight and sustainability.
Qualifications
* Currently pursuing a master’s in mechanical or acoustical engineering, with a strong interest in cars and sound/acoustics.
* Background in structural dynamics and acoustics; knowledge of noise & vibration testing and simulation is an important plus.
* Familiarity with mathematical and physical modelling and scientific scripting in Python.
* Good English proficiency and eagerness to work in a multi‑cultural environment.
* Student status for the entire period of the internship.
* EEA or Swiss citizenship (no work permit or visa requirement).
