This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its EIB Global Directorate (GLO) - Corporate Finance and Global Activities Department (CFGA) - Project Finance Division (PF) at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE .
Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st September/October 2026). Note: There may be an extension up to 6 months if required by the University. Please note that, as marked on our Webpage, only applications from nationals of the Member States of the European Union, as well as citizens from countries that have been officially granted candidate status to join the EU, can be considered (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine).

Objective of the traineeship
The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking a Trainee in Project Finance for EIB Global at its headquarters in Luxembourg. The selected trainee will gain hands on experience in the preparation and structuring of Project Finance operations outside the European Union, contributing to projects that support sustainable infrastructure, climate action and EU policy priorities under the Global Gateway strategy.
Responsibilities
Support the analysis of new Project Finance transactions, including the review of project documentation and financial information;
Contribute to the preparation of internal approval documents, such as concept notes and appraisal documents;
Assist in financial analysis and sensitivity testing of Project Finance models;
Support coordination with internal services, including legal, risk management, and environmental and social experts;
Participate in meetings with project sponsors, lenders and public counterparts, and prepare meeting summaries;
Carry out sectoral and country research relevant to the project pipeline.
Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills
Final year of studies or university degree in economics, finance, engineering or a related field;
Familiarity and strong interest in Project Finance, infrastructure and development finance;
Strong financial analysis skills;
Good analytical skills and ability to synthesize complex information;
Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools, in particular Excel and PowerPoint;
Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of another EU language would be an advantage.
