Job Description
Client Background & Position Overview
Our client is a global leader in advanced technologies, with a strong R&D footprint in Europe dedicated to next-generation photonics and semiconductor innovation. To strengthen its research team, the company is seeking a highly skilled R&D Silicon
Photonics Device Integration Expert. This position will focus on driving the integration of active components into an advanced silicon photonics platform, bridging device design, fabrication, and system-level performance. The role combines deep technical expertise with the opportunity to shape future photonic technologies for data communication and beyond.
Responsibilities
1. Define and establish new process module architectures for active devices within a silicon photonics platform.
2. Develop and optimize integration schemes for active components such as modulators, photodetectors, semiconductor optical amplifiers, and other optoelectronic devices.
3. Collaborate closely with device design, fabrication, and packaging teams to ensure seamless integration and system-level compatibility.
4. Lead the design and optimization of process flows for active component integration, with a focus on material compatibility, scalability, and yield.
5. Conduct feasibility studies, prototyping, and experimental validation of new process technologies.
6. Contribute to the long-term technology roadmap for active device integration in silicon photonics.
Requirements
7. PhD in Photonics, Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, with a focus on silicon photonics.
8. At least 5 years of post-PhD R&D experience in photonics (academic or industrial), ideally in data communication or related applications.
9. Proven expertise in the integration of active photonic devices (e.g., Ge-Si photodiodes, APDs, SPADs, SOAs, silicon-organic hybrid modulators) into silicon platforms, including addressing challenges in material compatibility, co-integration, and scalability.
10. Strong background in process architecture, process development, and fabrication technologies relevant to active devices.
11. Deep understanding of device physics and performance optimization for yield, reliability, and manufacturability.
12. Experience with simulation and design tools (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL, Flexcompute Tidy3D, or similar) is a plus.
13. Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to innovate.
14. Excellent teamwork and communication skills in a multidisciplinary and international environment.
15. Fluency in English (spoken and written).
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in advancing next-generation silicon photonics technologies at the intersection of photonics, semiconductors, and systems integration. You will join a world-class R&D environment, work alongside top experts, and contribute to breakthrough innovations that will shape the future of data communication and computing. If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of photonics integration and want to see your ideas move from concept to impact, we invite you to apply and become part of this exciting journey.
