About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Windows System Administrator for a freelance assignment with our client, driving the backbone of their IT operations. This is a 7-month project based in Brussels, where your expertise will directly impact the reliability, security, and evolution of critical digital infrastructure. You'll join a high-performing Windows Server Team, ensuring seamless operations and enabling innovation at scale.

As a Senior Windows System Administrator, you will be the architect and guardian of these systems, ensuring business continuity, rapid incident resolution, and the successful deployment of new technologies. Your work will empower teams, protect data, and drive operational excellence across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Resolve 2nd and 3rd line incidents, ensuring minimal downtime and rapid recovery
Implement and maintain Windows Server environments, including general maintenance and upgrades
Manage and optimize Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policies
Administer Windows Infrastructure Services (DHCP, DNS, PXE) and Windows Firewalling technologies
Support and maintain Citrix XenDesktop Servers and Remote Desktop Session Hosts
Deploy and manage Microsoft 365 technologies (Exchange Online, Teams, Authentication)
Execute line-of-business releases on application servers
Collaborate with IT Operations to ensure the entire IT structure is production-ready and resilient
Contribute to small-scale implementation projects and service improvements
Document solutions, share knowledge, and mentor team members
Technical Skills
Minimum 5 years' demonstrable experience as a Windows System Administrator
Expertise in Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policies (5+ years)
Deep knowledge of Windows Server 2016 or later (5+ years)
Proficiency in Windows Infrastructure Services (DHCP, DNS, PXE) and Firewalling (5+ years)
Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 technologies (Exchange Online, Teams, Authentication) (2+ years)
Strong command of at least one specialist system: Unix/Linux/Windows, mainframe, middleware, security, or network/communication systems
Fluency in Microsoft Active Directory Federation Services, Microsoft Endpoint Manager (InTune), Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Protection, and Microsoft Exchange Server 2019 or higher is a plus
Experience with Citrix NetScaler, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, VMWare vSphere, Azure DevOps Server, CommVault Simpana, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft IIS, PowerShell, and related technologies is highly valued
Knowledge of ITIL processes, especially change management
Language Proficiency
Full professional proficiency in Dutch (CEFR level C2) is required
