Position Summary
Position: UX Designer in AI
Location: Remote within the EU (or on-site Ghent/Antwerp, Belgium)
Company: Emma Legal – M&A Due Diligence Platform
Industry: LegalTech, SaaS, Large Language Models, Artificial Intelligence, M&A
About Us
Emma Legal augments corporate lawyers with legal due diligence processes with the power of AI, ensuring faster, more accurate, and impactful outcomes for M&A dealmakers. As a young but ambitious LegalTech startup, we believe AI is transforming the legal profession in high-stake environments like mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
We’re building software that lawyers actually want to use: fast, clear, trustworthy, and delightful under pressure. If you love turning complex workflows into intuitive products and want to work at the intersection of AI and high-stakes decision-making, we’d like to meet you.
The Role
As a UX Designer, you will own and drive the user experience across our platform—from early discovery and prototypes to polished UI and shipped features. You’ll work closely with the CTO/co-founders, engineering, and our customers (= lawyers) to deeply understand workflows and translate them into elegant product experiences.
This role is for UX designers who thrive in ambiguity, take initiative, leverage AI tools to build designs faster and enjoy figuring things out end‑to‑end. If you prefer pixel‑pushing without context, care more about how it looks than the actual functionality, don’t like talking to customers, prefer not to use AI tools for your design or need everything fully defined upfront, that is fine but this job isn’t for you.
Key Responsibilities
* Own the UX for key product areas and turn complex legal/AI workflows into clear, intuitive experiences.
* Lead the full design cycle: discovery, user research, flows, wireframes, prototypes, UI design, and design QA.
* Collaborate side‑by‑side with engineers to ship high‑quality experiences (and iterate fast based on feedback).
* Build and maintain a lightweight design system in Figma (components, patterns, tokens, guidelines).
* Facilitate customer conversations, usability tests, and feedback sessions to validate solutions.
* Continuously improve our user documentation at https://docs.emma.legal after your designs have been put into production.
Must‑have Qualifications
* Medior‑level experience (5+ years) designing web applications with a strong focus on UX (B2B/SaaS experience is a plus).
* Excellent skills in Figma (components, auto‑layout, variants, prototyping, libraries).
* Strong product thinking: you can balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
* You have a decent understanding of the legal profession and how lawyers operate.
* Experience collaborating closely with engineers and doing design QA to ensure high fidelity implementation.
* Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written).
* A bias toward action: you can move from “problem” to “shippable solution” with speed and craft.
* Experience using AI tools to build designs and/or prototypes fast.
Bonus Skills
* Experience designing for AI‑driven products (confidence, explainability, “human‑in‑the‑loop” UX).
* Experience law, compliance, or other high‑stakes domains (finance, healthcare, security).
* Familiarity with analytics (funnels, retention, heatmaps) and experimentation/iteration loops.
* Experience building or evolving design systems.
* Speaking multiple languages.
* You bring diversity (in the broadest sense) to the team.
What We Offer
* Competitive salary and Equity Stock Options (ESOPs) with growth potential.
* The chance to shape the future of LegalTech and AI.
* Flexible working arrangements (remote‑first, adaptable schedules).
* Direct collaboration with the company’s founders.
* A collaborative environment where your work directly impacts customer value and company growth.
* Opportunity to work on the bleeding edge of what’s possible with AI and LLMs.
* Professional growth and leadership opportunities in a high‑growth startup.
* A commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring a welcoming space for all team members.
