About the Role We are seeking an experienced Progress Developer to join our client’s team on a freelance basis for a 6-month project in Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining, modernizing, and extending business-critical applications that power real-world impact. You’ll work at the intersection of classic ABL development and modern API-driven architectures, collaborating with a team of Progress experts, analysts, and project managers to deliver solutions that matter. As a Progress Developer, you will help solve complex integration and modernization challenges, ensuring these systems remain robust, scalable, and future-ready. Your expertise will directly influence business continuity, performance, and the ability to innovate at scale. What You’ll Be Doing Develop and maintain applications using Progress OpenEdge ABL (Advanced Business Language) Design and optimize database access within OpenEdge DB environments Build and expose APIs via OpenEdge Studio, enabling seamless integration with internal and external systems Analyze and improve application performance, focusing on queries, locking, and transactions Collaborate closely with analysts, project managers, end users, and fellow Progress experts in a hybrid development environment Drive modernization initiatives by leveraging PASOE (Progress Application Server) and API-driven architectures Technical Skills Expert-level experience with Progress OpenEdge / ABL Deep understanding of temp-tables, datasets, and buffers Advanced knowledge of transactions and locking mechanisms (NO-LOCK, SHARE-LOCK, EXCLUSIVE-LOCK) Expertise in OpenEdge database design and performance tuning Hands-on experience with PASOE (Progress Application Server) Proficiency in building and consuming APIs Nice-to-have: Experience with .NET, modern IDEs (Progress Developer Studio / PDSOE), and APIDOG What We’re Looking For Ownership mentality and a passion for building solutions that drive real impact Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills Structured, detail-oriented, and quality-driven approach Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit Ability to work effectively in cross-functional IT teams Experience level: Medior Software Engineer or higher Language Proficiency Professional proficiency in English is required Other Requirements Partial remote work is possible Location: Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium This is a freelance position with a 6-month project duration Ready to build the future with us?
