We're currently recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer for a position in Leuven, to help develop high-precision mechanical solutions for advanced microelectronics systems. This role sits at the intersection of mechanical engineering, electronics integration, and precision manufacturing, where small-scale design decisions have a major impact on performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
You will be responsible for designing and refining mechanical components and assemblies used in microelectronic devices, packaging, and supporting infrastructure. The work involves tight tolerances, compact form factors, and careful consideration of thermal, structural, and material behaviours at small scales.
You will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, process engineers, and manufacturing partners to ensure seamless integration between mechanical structures and electronic functionality. A key part of the role is translating complex system requirements into robust, manufacturable designs that can be reliably produced at scale.
Key Responsibilities
Design mechanical components and assemblies for microelectronics and precision systems
Produce detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications using modern CAD tools
Ensure designs meet tight tolerance, performance, and reliability requirements
Work closely with electrical, process, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless system integration
Support prototyping, testing, and iterative design improvements
Apply design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles
Conduct design reviews and incorporate feedback from cross-functional stakeholders
Maintain accurate engineering documentation, BOMs, and revision control
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
Experience in mechanical design within similar high-tech industries
Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, Fusion 360, or equivalent)
Solid understanding xlxgzvr of engineering fundamentals including materials, mechanics, and manufacturing processes
Experience working with tight tolerances and precision assemblies
Strong attention to detail and precision mindset
Analytical problem-solving ability
Clear communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration
Ability to manage multiple design tasks and iterate quickly
Practical, hands-on engineering approach
