MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER - WEST FLANDERS (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in machine design to develop robust, high-performance mechanical systems, equipment, and automation solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for designing machines and mechanisms that operate reliably in real-world industrial environments, often under demanding conditions, tight tolerances, and high-duty cycles.
You will be involved across the full engineering lifecycle, from early-stage concept development and system architecture through detailed mechanical design, CAD modelling, prototyping, testing, and production support. This includes working on complex assemblies involving motion systems, structural frameworks, power transmission, and integrated mechanical subsystems.
A key part of this role is turning functional requirements into engineered machine solutions that are not only technically sound, but also manufacturable, serviceable, and cost-effective. You will collaborate closely with electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems into complete machine platforms. This is a hands-on engineering role that blends analytical thinking with practical problem-solving and real-world build experience.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design mechanical systems, machines, mechanisms, and automation equipment
* Develop 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and assembly documentation
* Perform engineering calculations for strength, motion, tolerance, and performance
* Select materials, components, bearings, actuators, and drive systems
* Design for manufacturability (DFM), assembly (DFA), and reliability
* Support prototyping, machine build, testing, and validation activities
* Troubleshoot mechanical issues and improve existing machine designs
* Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers on system integration
* Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations
* Support production teams during manufacturing and commissioning
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
* Strong experience in machine design or industrial equipment design
* Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar)
* Solid understanding of mechanics, kinematics, and machine elements
* Experience with tolerance analysis and engineering drawings (GD&T)
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, fabrication, assembly)
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
