About the role
You will lead the execution of UCB’s digital strategy for a large-scale greenfield capital project, embedding AI-first and lights-out factory concepts from the earliest design stages. This role ensures our future site is automation-enabled, compliance-ready, and built for high-performance, digitally empowered operations, including Device Assembly & Packaging (DAP) processes.
Who you will work with
You will work closely with automation, engineering, IT, and quality teams, acting as the digital transformation representative across business, technical, and compliance stakeholders. You’ll collaborate with internal and external partners to drive execution, remove roadblocks, and deliver state-of-the-art digital solutions, including those supporting device assembly and packaging lines.
What you will do
1. Lead the digital workstream within the capital project, ensuring alignment with broader program timelines and strategic objectives
2. Translate AI-first and smart factory principles into design and operational requirements for digital manufacturing
3. Collaborate across disciplines (automation, engineering, quality, IT) to embed digital capabilities into the facility infrastructure and workflows
4. Identify and integrate advanced digital solutions, such as robotics, digital twins, vision systems, MES, SCADA, and predictive analytics to boost performance and efficiency
5. Define and implement digital strategies specific to Device Assembly & Packaging operations, ensuring traceability, efficiency, and compliance
6. Support GMP-compliant validation, qualification, and readiness activities, ensuring smooth transition to commercial operations
7. Act as the main digital point of contact for the capital program, facilitating communication, issue resolution, and decision-making
8. Drive augmented operator capabilities, improved workflows, and digital adoption to future-proof operations
Interested? For this role, we are looking for the following education, experience, and skills:
9. You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (advanced degrees are a plus)
10. You bring 5–7 years of experience in digital transformation or smart manufacturing, including 2–3 years in program or project management
11. You’ve worked on greenfield or capital projects, in biopharma or other GMP-regulated environments
12. You’re familiar with end-to-end supply chain processes and have a strong grasp of Industry 4.0 principles
13. You have hands-on knowledge of automation, robotics, vision systems, MES, SCADA, and data platforms
14. You have experience supporting or digitizing Device Assembly & Packaging processes
15. You’re experienced in ensuring compliance with GMP and regulatory frameworks
16. You’re a strong project leader, skilled at driving timelines, managing risks, and influencing across technical and non-technical stakeholders
17. You communicate clearly, engage easily across functions, and drive alignment
18. You’re analytical, solutions-driven, and quick to adapt in dynamic environments
19. You take ownership, act with purpose, and push forward in high-stakes, ambiguous contexts
20. You’re collaborative by nature but not afraid to challenge the status quo and bring fresh perspectives
Are you ready to ‘go beyond’ to create value and make your mark for patients? If this sounds like you, then we would love to hear from you!
