As a Barge Master, you help make heavy transport and installation work safely and smoothly on the water.
As a Barge Master, you work on rivers, canals, and lakes across Europe. You will help prepare, operate, and move barges during transport and installation jobs. This includes Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off), skidding, and crane operations.
You will work closely with engineers, tugboats, and other crew to carry out safe and efficient operations.
Responsibility:
Your job as an International Barge master in a nutshell:
* Prepare and move barges before and after each job
* Follow project and safety plans during all operations
* Carry out ballasting work using instructions and calculations
* Read and follow mooring and layout plans
* Operate winches and take part in mooring tasks
* Assist with load-outs using SPMT and skidding systems
* Help place cranes and support lifting activities from the barge
* Join toolbox talks and follow safety rules
* Keep daily records and report to the Lead Supervisor or Project Manager
* Work together with tugboat captains, marine crew, and clients
In this position, you will report to the planning manager. Sometimes you work more in a small team of about 3 people, sometimes you work in a larger team.
PROFILE
Required:
* Experience working on barges and water-based transport
* Knowledge of ballasting and mooring
* Able to read basic technical plans (mooring, layout, ballast)
* Experience with Ro-Ro and skidding operations
* A safe work attitude
* Good team player
* Excellent English communication skills
* Willing to travel and work across Europe
Preferred:
* Background in marine operations or engineering
* Some experience with SPMT transport
* Certified training in barge or deck operations
* Experience with cranes on barges is a bonus
