Naval Design Engineer – EN & FR or NL – ALTEN Belgium
The Position
As part of our ongoing growth, we are looking for an Naval Design Engineer to join our teams and support a major naval defense program in Belgium (long-term mission).
You will contribute to the outfitting and layout studies of naval vessels currently under construction, ensuring the proper integration of systems, equipment, and installations on board.
Your main objective will be to guarantee the technical, ergonomic, and regulatory compliance of the ship layouts and outfitting solutions.
Main Responsibilities
* Carry out general outfitting and layout studies for naval vessels (technical areas, living quarters, cable routes, ducts, piping, HVAC, furniture, etc.)
* Develop and update 2D/3D design drawings using AutoCAD
* Ensure the consistent integration of various systems within available volumes (mechanical, electrical, HVAC, structural, etc.)
* Participate in design reviews and coordination meetings with multidisciplinary engineering teams
* Integrate functional, regulatory, safety, and maintenance constraints from the design phase
* Collaborate closely with both French engineering teams and local Belgian teams (environments E=MCM and MCL Lab)
* Contribute to documentation updates and technical knowledge capitalization
Your Profile
* Degree in Mechanical Design, Naval Architecture, or equivalent technical background
* Minimum 3 years of experience in CAD / 3D design within an industrial environment (ideally naval, offshore, railway, or aerospace)
* Experience in outfitting or equipment integration within complex systems is a strong asset
* Proficient in 2D/3D CAD software (AutoCAD required)
* Knowledge of naval outfitting standards, integration constraints, and safety/habitability regulations
* Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and digital mock-ups
* Languages: English mandatory; French or Dutch is a plus
* Soft skills:
* Rigorous, autonomous, and detail-oriented
* Strong communication and teamwork abilities
* Comfortable working in an international, defense-sensitive environment
