The demand for photonic components is increasing rapidly, requiring cointegration of electronics and photonics and achieving higher bandwidths per channel to meet growing bandwidth density needs. To address these challenges, our client is investing aggressively in silicon photonics research and development and implement solutions based on this technology. The team is at the heart of this R&D effort and is located in Flanders, Belgium.
We are now looking for an experienced RF Design Engineer to lead the RF design of high-speed modulators.
Job Responsibilities:
Work as part of a team of photonic design engineers dedicated to developing silicon photonics platforms
Develop high-speed modulators with a focus on RF design in traveling-wave modulator designs, including traveling line, Balun, biasing, and termination circuit design
Evaluate modulators on different material systems using various physical effects (e.g. Pockels effect, plasma dispersion effect)
Develop new equalization techniques to enhance device bandwidth or engineer dispersion
Interface with driver teams to enable tailored solutions
Lead the characterization of high-speed modulators and work closely with the test team
Design and validate photonic components, subsystems, and circuits
Define test plans and analyze experimental data in the R&D phase
Collaborate closely with component/module teams and processing teams
Requirements & Qualifications:
Education:
Ph.D. in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 3+ years of work experience; Or Master’s degree in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 6+ years of work experience
What we are looking at you:
Design of photonic components in silicon photonics or III-V materials
Track record of successful (project) management of high-speed modulator development
Hands-on experience with RF modelling tools (e.g. CST, HFSS, ADS, COMSOL) and RF characterization of high-speed components
General knowledge of silicon photonics devices and process flow
Hands-on experience with layout tools (e.g. Tanner L-Edit, Luceda Ipkiss)
Experience with Python and Linux (advantageous)
Strong team player with excellent written and oral communication skills
Creativity in problem-solving and commitment to continuous improvement
Fluent in English (written and spoken)
