These Drones work together harmoniously to provide Tactical Reconnaissance and Advantage during critical and stressful missions. Both aerial and ground robots are developed. We are actively working on disruptive innovative next-generation Drone technology that we believe will advance our mission to Protect Life.The SkyHero Firmware team is a key team responsible for drone integration, owning the lower-level middleware on a powerful Embedded Linux System-on-Chip and the Flight Controller. All firmware aspects related to flying are handled by this team, which collaborates closely with an adjacent team of Controls and Vision Engineers.What You’ll DoLocation: Brussels, BelgiumReports to: Robotics Firmware Engineering ManagerBe part of a high-performing team that designs and develops game-changing Robotics products to Protect LifeDerive and write comprehensive Test Plans and Test Cases while thinking critically about customer workflows and edge casesLeverage Jira and Zephyr to keep work organized and team aligned on bug triageWork with engineers to understand flight tuning outcomes and physically fly and drive drones to verify expected behaviorsTurn subjective flight and driving drone behavior into evidence-driven, repeatable testsOwn flight/ground test execution in Brussels, including test setup, runbooks, evidence capture (logs, video), and repeatabilityBe an integral part of the team and help drive the Release Calendar and Go/No-Go decisions from a quality perspectiveExecute test cases for major releases, identify regressions, and communicate clearly repro steps to engineersUse AI tooling to assist in writing test scripts and rudimentary automation workflowsBe a team player, mentor, strong communicator and support the team when neededPerform exploratory and chaos testing on the drone ecosystem to help engineers Look Around CornersHelp track and identify drone product metrics ensuring consistency of operation over releases2–4 trips per year (1 week each) to USA or Finland for team integration events during critical release gatesOperate effectively across time zones with high-quality written updates, clean handoffs, and crisp defect artifactsWhat You BringWhile all candidates will be considered, those with proven QA experience on hardware–software products will be prioritized. Prior drone and robotics experience is desirable but not required.Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited UniversityMinimum 7+ years of industry experience in Quality Assurance on complex productsStrong technical writing skillsFamiliarity with software tools, command-line interfaces, and loading firmware binariesStrong English speaking fluencyFrench or Dutch speaking is a plusBasic functional coding knowledge in a leading scripting language (e.g., Python)Comfortable on Embedded Linux and command-line interfaces (e.g., flash builds, collect logs, basic networking)Familiarity with Git or a similar source code control systemFamiliarity with CI/CD systemsDemonstrable experience with UAV ecosystems is a plusExperience flying Drones; possession of any pilot’s license is a plusExperience scripting simple autonomous flight paths with common UAV frameworks is a plusAwareness of UAV or Robotics frameworks (e.g., PX4, ArduPilot, Betaflight, ROS) is a plusAlignment to Axon’s Mission and willingness to work near Conductive Energy Weapons (CEW)Don’t meet every single requirement?
