Stantec’s Belgium office is the headquarters of our European Institutions unit. We provide project management support to EU institutions such as the European Commission (EC), EU executive agencies (e.g. CINEA), the European Investment Bank (EIB), but also some EU bilateral donors. We combine expertise in providing sustainable solutions to Climate change and energy transition challenges in the EU and in partners countries.
We are currently seeking to recruit a full-time (m/f):
EU Business Development Manager (BDM) to strengthen our Business Development team and increase our business with the European Commission and its Executive Agencies.
We are looking for an experienced professional with in-depth knowledge of the EU consultancy market, particularly with the European Commission, bodies and its executive agencies. The ideal candidate will contribute to the strategic positioning of Stantec, leveraging their experience in securing projects, building a strong pipeline, and drafting compelling proposals. We seek a professional with a vision and innovative ideas to differentiate Stantec in the market and provide high-quality services.
Key responsibilities
Lead and contribute to high-quality tender proposals, including technical and financial components, ensuring alignment with EC requirements.
1. Build and manage a strong project pipeline, ensuring continuous business growth in collaboration with internal teams.
2. Establish strategic partnerships and consortiums to strengthen Stantec’s positioning in competitive tenders.
3. Oversee the full tendering cycle, ensuring compliance with Stantec’s business development processes and client expectations.
4. Stay aware of activities of the European Commission, particularly (DG Environment, DG Climate Action, DG Energy and other DGs relevant) and its Executive Agencies (CINEA, REA, etc.). Identify and assess new project opportunities, capturing and gathering intelligence on funding priorities and upcoming calls for tenders.
5. Strategically develop client portfolios within Stantec’s core sectors (energy, environment, climate change, digital), ensuring alignment with EU funding programmes and tendering opportunities.
Qualifications:
Applicants should as a minimum have the following qualifications and demonstrate the following skills:
6. A university degree or equivalent experience in a field relevant to Stantec (energy, environment, climate change, sustainable development, digitalisation, etc.).
7. A strong understanding of EU policies, and programmes related to energy, environment, and climate and its tendering mechanisms.
8. 3 to 5 years of experience in business development for contractors to the European Commission and relevant executive agencies such as CINEA with a proven track record of successful project wins on Environment, Climate and Energy transition.
9. Strong entrepreneurial talent to identify and realise new opportunities as well as new innovations/approaches that will secure success in tendering proposals.
10. Experience in analysing tender dossiers, expressions of interest and contract notices from EU institutions.
11. Established networks with potential partners, experts, and key stakeholders in Stantec’s target sectors.
12. Excellent knowledge of the energy and climate change sectors and/or professional consulting experience on EU projects would be considered as an asset.
13. Strong ability to source, process, and analyse information and translate it into high-quality, persuasive proposals.
14. Excellent project management skills, ability to handle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
15. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and ideally French.
16. Willingness and availability to travel occasionally for business development.
