Freelance Financial Controlling Manager
What the Project Is About
An international organization operating in a fast-paced and transformation-driven environment is seeking an experienced Freelance Financial Controlling Manager to strengthen its finance leadership team during a critical transition period.
This assignment requires a senior-level finance leader capable of combining hands-on controlling expertise with strong stakeholder management and team leadership. The successful consultant will act as a key business partner to senior management, helping drive financial transparency, performance analysis, and decision-making across multiple business units.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate the controlling activities across several operational and corporate entities
* Manage and mentor a team of up to 10 finance professionals, ensuring high-quality output and continuous performance improvement
* Oversee monthly management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
* Deliver clear financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership and operational stakeholders
* Conduct investment and profitability analysis to support strategic business decisions
* Review business performance indicators and identify opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency improvements
* Monitor cash flow performance and support liquidity planning initiatives
* Ensure accuracy and consistency of financial data across reporting cycles
* Collaborate closely with accounting, FP&A, and operational teams to improve financial processes and controls
* Support ongoing finance transformation and process standardization initiatives where required
Requirements for the Candidate
Experience
* Minimum 10 years of experience within financial controlling, FP&A, or finance leadership roles
* Proven track record managing finance teams of up to 10 people
* Strong hands-on controlling background within complex or international environments
* Experience delivering executive-level management reporting and business performance analysis
* Previous exposure to investment analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
* Comfortable operating in fast-moving environments with senior stakeholder exposure
* Freelance/consulting experience is considered a strong advantage
Technologies
* Strong Excel and financial modeling capabilities
* ERP experience required; SAP experience is considered a strong plus
* Familiarity with BI/reporting tools is advantageous
Additional Requirements / Bonuses
* Fluent English is mandatory
* Professional proficiency in either French or Dutch is required
* Strong communication and leadership skills
* Ability to balance strategic oversight with operational execution
* Immediately available consultants or short notice profiles preferred
