Job Description A full‐time, indivisible academic position (professor position) (M/F/X) in the field of "Ruminant Internal Medicine", attached to the Clinical Department of Production Animals (DCP). This position includes teaching, research, and community service activities.
Teaching Activities The person holding this position will be responsible, in collaboration with other teachers, for organising and delivering the following theoretical and clinical teaching activities in the master in veterinary medicine:
VETE2061: Semiology of Production Animals (M1) VETE2078: Health and Production Management of Ruminants (M2)
VETE2085: Clinic for Ruminants (M2)
VETE2095: Clinic for Ruminants, monogastrics and on‐call duties (M3)
VTFE0005-1: Final dissertation (8 weeks) [supervision of final dissertations].

Clinical activities are among the services offered to rural practitioners and livestock farmers. The DCP clinics operate year‐round, accepting cases referred by colleagues in the field. These clinical activities are complemented by practical work, tutorials, and seminars.
The teaching duties also include providing training to students enrolled in the Specialized Master's programme in Veterinary Sciences, through courses associated with the following titles:
VETE0460-1: Ruminants Clinic and on‐call services including anaesthesia and imaging
VETE0461-1: Herd medicine clinic: farm visits, reproductive monitoring and ambulatory clinic
Finally, activities related to doctoral training may also be offered (ruminant health management).
Research Activities The research activities developed must contribute to the theoretical and clinical teaching of the discipline. Complete freedom will be granted in the choice of research topics. Research activities include supervising doctoral theses and publishing scientific articles. These activities may be conducted within an interdisciplinary research centre and will involve collaboration with other available expertise both within and outside the institution.
Services to the Community These services will be based on clinical activity within the Ruminant Clinic and on farms, continuing education for practising veterinarians, and integration into the various faculty bodies. The candidate must be involved in the professional sector at the regional, national, and international levels and offer recognised expertise in this particular clinical field. They will also be expected to actively contribute to the University of Liège's national and international profile. The successful candidate will also be integrated into the Department's missions. They will be committed to developing the Department's profile within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the University of Liège, the veterinary profession, students, and the ruminant livestock sector. Furthermore, the candidate will be a key figure in the training of residents for the European College of Bovine Health (ECBHM). He/she will also provide continuing education.
Qualifications Required / Profile Required qualifications
Be a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine/veterinary doctor, approved, and registered with the Order of Veterinary Surgeons to practise in Belgium;
Hold a doctoral thesis in veterinary sciences (PhD or equivalent qualification);
Be able to communicate effectively in French, or commit to achieving a sufficient level proficiency in French by the end of the probationary period;
Be a Diplomate of the European College of Bovine Health Management (ECBHM) or possibly the European College of Small Ruminant Health Management (ECSRHM) and/or the American College of Large Animal Internal Medicine (ACVIM). To broaden the pool of applicants, candidates eligible for the specialist examination and/or who have at least fully completed their residency in one of the aforementioned colleges will be accepted. In this case, passing the examination within 3 years would be a prerequisite for a permanent appointment.
The candidate must :
Have clinical and theoretical experience in ruminant herd management and more particularly in ruminant internal medicine. Ideally, the successful candidate will have practical experience that will allow them to further develop farm visits, clinical activities (individual cases) and provide on‐call services (as backup);
Demonstrate an interest and a real aptitude for teaching (educational project);
Possess leadership, teamwork and communication skills;
To have demonstrated the ability to lead and develop research projects and scientific publications;
Assets :
Have completed a mobility stay of more than six months outside the Wallonia‐Brussels Federation, not necessarily in one continuous period.
Selection Procedure Each candidate's application is reviewed by a faculty committee, which selects candidates for interview, justifying its decisions based on the call for applications and the candidates' qualifications and merits. The committee then conducts the interviews. These interviews focus in particular on the candidate's curriculum vitae, their teaching and research plans, and their proposed integration into the institution. The selection process includes a public lecture.

Conditions of Employment The position is awarded either for a fixed term of four years, or, in certain exceptional circumstances, immediately on a permanent basis. If a fixed term contract is awarded, an evaluation will be carried out at the end of the third year.
If the evaluation is negative, the person's appointment will end after the fourth year.
If the evaluation is positive, the person will be appointed permanently.

Remuneration Basic appointments are made at the grade of lecturer. The gross monthly salary at the start of the scale (on a full‐time basis) is currently €5,992.58, to which is added an end‐of‐year allowance (in December) and a holiday allowance (in June). In exception circumstances, the Faculty may submit a substantiated application to obtain a higher grade in the salary scale.
The career of full‐time teaching staff includes the grades of lecturer, professor and full professor. Career development (after the recruitment grade) is possible through the promotions' procedure, the terms and conditions of which are defined by the Board of Directors.
