Local Chief Cyber Security Officer (CISO)
The Elia Group encompasses two major transmission system operators (TSOs) in two European regions: Elia Transmission in Belgium and 50Hertz Transmission, one of the four German TSOs in northeast Germany. Both TSOs operate at the heart of the European electricity system, providing vital links between producers and their 30 million end‑users via an intricately meshed 18,600 km grid.
In this context, cybersecurity is a strategic priority. The Local Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is a key leadership role, responsible for protecting the organisation against cyber threats and ensuring the resilience of both IT and operational technology environments. The Local CISO is responsible for the cyber resilience and information security of the local entity operating within national critical infrastructure. The role defines and drives cybersecurity strategy, governance, risk management, and crisis response, ensuring disaster recovery and compliance with regulatory expectations. The Local CISO is a key interface to executive management, the Group CISO, the Local CIO, regulators, and national security authorities.
Key Responsibilities
Define and implement the local cybersecurity strategy aligned with Group strategy and policies
Establish and maintain information security governance across IT and operational technology
Identify, assess, and report cyber risks, including geopolitical and hybrid threats
Lead strategic response and management during major cyber incidents
Ensure effective incident response and disaster recovery plans
Act as primary cybersecurity representative towards regulators and authorities
Lead and develop the local ISMS team
Strengthen cybersecurity awareness and culture across the organisation
Manage the local cybersecurity budget and steer local security investments
Ensure secure technologies, architectures, and third‑party risk management
Your Profile
Master’s degree or equivalent level through experience
More than 5 years of experience in cybersecurity
Proven experience in critical infrastructure or highly regulated environments
Proven technical knowledge of IT related subjects (e.g. application development, IT infrastructure management)
Strong understanding of cyber risk, governance, and compliance frameworks
Ability to balance cybersecurity risks with operational and business priorities
Experience leading expert teams and influencing and advising executive management
Strong crisis management and decision‑making capabilities
Experience managing significant budgets and complex priorities
Credible communicator with regulators, authorities, and senior stakeholders
Strategic mindset with high autonomy and resilience
Fluent in English. Knowledge of Dutch and/or French and/or German is a plus.
