The Domain Architect (IT Domain) operates at the intersection of Enterprise Architecture and Solution Architecture. In large organizations, the enterprise landscape is too complex to manage transformation end to end without segmentation. The Domain Architect bridges this gap by taking responsibility for the architecture of the business capabilities assigned to a Domain HR, Finance, Customer, Transport…), ensuring that strategic direction is translated into coherent, actionable architectural guidance.
1) Shape & Own the IT-Domain Architecture
1. Develop and maintain the Domain Architecture, translating enterprise strategy into domain specific structures, principles, and architectural patterns.
2. Define and maintain the capabilities and related operating model of the IT-domain and making the bridge with the organisation, the processes, technology & data with a focus on IT4IT.
3. Ensure that domain specific architecture decisions remain compliant with enterprise architecture guardrails and principles.
Provide architectural guidance for major initiatives within the domain, ensuring alignment with target architectures and domain principles.
Collaborate with Solution Architects to ensure consistent solution patterns, coherent information flows, and integration with adjacent domains.
Conduct early architectural validation and guide teams toward scalable, secure, and compliant design choices.
Link the corporate capability map to the processes, data, and systems that realise them.
Apply frameworks such as IT4IT, ITIL, and TBM to translate operating models into domain specific capabilities and IT services.
Balance long term strategic direction with pragmatic delivery guidance for programs and teams.
Vereisten
Education & Training
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
Architecture & Methods
Strong grounding in Enterprise Architecture TOGAF) and the ability to translate principles into domain level guidance.
Familiarity with IT4IT, ITIL, and TBM, understanding how they shape operating models and enterprise capabilities.
Proficiency with ArchiMate and BPMN for modelling architecture and processes.
Knowledge of ServiceNow and Aris is considered a big plus.
Analysis & Structuring
Skilled in analysis techniques (use cases, scenario building, process analysis).
Able to maintain focus on the big picture while accounting for tactical constraints.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
Fluent in Dutch or French, and English.
Excellent stakeholder management; able to connect with business and IT, gather insights, and build alignment.
Strong communication and presentation skills, making complex architecture understandable for diverse audiences.
Personal Effectiveness
Structured, methodical, and detail oriented.
Diplomatic, patient, and able to bring people together around common architectural goals.
Comfortable working in complex, multi domain environments and guiding teams through ambiguity.
