About the Role
Our client is seeking an IT Lead to drive the technical evolution of their AREA42 applications and reusable components. This is a freelance opportunity for a full year, fully remote from Belgium or across Europe, where you'll architect, innovate, and lead the build of next-generation B2B trade solutions. Your mission: empower a diverse team to deliver scalable, high-impact technology that transforms the future of digital trade.

You'll solve complex challenges in platform scalability, modular architecture, and seamless user experience, directly impacting how businesses trade, manage risk, and grow. Your leadership will ensure that every line of code and every architectural decision accelerates innovation and unlocks new growth engines for the ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the technical build of AREA42 applications, APIs, user experiences, front and backend systems, and data platforms in close collaboration with the Head of Operations.
* Act as a senior advisor to project teams, defining the best technologies, tools, and architectures for each venture.
* Partner with Product Owners to maximize the impact and scalability of new ventures.
* Establish and manage technical benchmarks to deliver innovative solutions across web and API architectures.
* Identify and deploy best practices for sustainable scalability, ensuring each module is an asset for future development.
* Champion a culture of craftsmanship, including thorough documentation and meaningful code reviews.
* Oversee the maintenance of all application environments (DEV, TST, PROD), ensuring smooth daily operations and rapid issue resolution.
* Drive the development and deployment of new features and client solutions, collaborating closely with Test Engineers to maintain robust test collections.
* Perform systematic peer code reviews to ensure high-quality deliverables and foster knowledge sharing within the team.
* Support occasional travel for project development, fully expensed by the client.
Technical Skills
* Proven experience as a full stack developer in a startup or high-growth environment
* Expertise in both frontend and backend development
* Strong architectural skills across web, API, and data platforms
* Experience with OutSystems or similar low-code platforms is highly valued
* Technical documentation and peer code review expertise
* Ability to deliver products end-to-end, from concept to production
* Understanding of B2B trade and/or trade credit insurance is a plus
Language Proficiency
* English: Full professional proficiency required
* Dutch or French: Nice to have

* Experience working in Agile or lean startup environments is advantageous
