Join KU Leuven's Electa division within the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT), embedded in EnergyVille (Genk, Belgium). Our team focuses on advanced modelling and control of power electronic converters and power systems, with a strong emphasis on DC systems.
We are developing BriskSim, a next-generation EMT simulation tool for electrical transients, to support the energy transition and address challenges in HVDC and converter-dominated grids.
Responsibilities
* Identify and understand future user needs in EMT simulation through collaborations.
* Design and plan architecture-level solutions.
* Implement R&D plans and software development using modern principles.
* Optimize for computation time and accuracy.
* Manage version control (Git) and automated testing.
* Develop demonstration use-cases with industry.
* Publish results and present at conferences.
Profile
We seek applicants with a PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering and strong motivation to work in an international team.
Profile 1: computer science
* Expertise in software design for scientific computing (Julia, C/C++, Rust, Fortran).
* Experience with numerical algorithms (numerical integration, graph theory, linear algebra, sparse matrices).
* Experience with multi-threading and multi-processing.
* Proficiency in Git and automated testing.
* Interest in power system applications
Profile 2: Power Systems EMT Specialist
* Deep knowledge of EMT simulation and power system dynamics.
* Experience with HVDC systems and converter control interactions.
* Experience with detailed EMT component modelling.
* Ability to collaborate with TSOs and industry partners.
Offer
We offer a fully funded postdoctoral position with benefits (health insurance, access to university infrastructure, sports facilities).
