With 7,000 students and 1,000 staff members, the University of Namur is one of the main employers in the Namur region and a world-renowned research institution. Among its six faculties, the Faculty of Computer Science has the honor of being the first faculty in Belgium to offer education in this field, more than 50 years ago. Since then, the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Namur has perfected its reputation through both first-rate teaching programs and cutting-edge research, particularly in the field of software engineering and its various applications. As part of its research missions, the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Namur is looking to hire a full-time researcher.
Fixed-term contract of 20 to 24 months.
Start date: April 1, 2026.
Responsibilities
The candidate will be involved in a research project funded by the FNRS, called ALGEPI (). This research project focuses on the impact of recommendation algorithms in the media field. The EXUI research team's contribution to this project focuses on the impact of user interfaces, and particularly the presentation of recommendation results to end users. The project therefore falls within the broader theme of explainable AI (XAI).
The candidate is expected to have research experience in human-computer interaction and/or artificial intelligence, and ideally in the intersection between the two fields of research. Candidates with a background in social sciences will be considered if their profile demonstrates the expertise required to work on user-centered design of interactive systems. Candidates with a background in machine learning will also be considered if their profile demonstrates skills in human-machine interaction, including with end users who do not have advanced computer skills.
The research will be conducted within Professor Bruno Dumas' EXUI (EXtended User Interactions) research team. The EXUI research team consists of nine researchers working on human-machine interaction, with a focus on the following research topics: multimodal interaction, augmented reality and mixed reality, transparency of artificial intelligence, and multidisciplinary approaches. The EXUI team is part of the NADI (Namur Digital Institute: ) research institute. With more than 200 members, the NADI research institute is one of the largest institutes in French-speaking Belgium working on issues related to digital technology in all its facets and disciplines.
Profil
The candidate will hold a degree:
1. PhD in Computer Science or equivalent, or
2. PhD in Social Sciences with strong computer skills at a university level
3. Other degree deemed equivalent by the selection committee
