The Opportunity
We are supporting an innovative robotics company that is scaling up its engineering activities and looking to bring in a Freelance Hardware Controls Engineer to support ongoing and upcoming automation projects. You will play a key role in the design, development, and implementation of control hardware for advanced robotic systems used in industrial environments.
This is a hands-on, project-driven role suited to an experienced engineer who can work independently and contribute from concept through to commissioning.
Your Responsibilities
* Design and develop electrical hardware for robotic and automated systems
* Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
* Select and specify components (drives, PLCs, safety systems, I/O modules, sensors)
* Support the integration of control systems into robotic installations
* Collaborate with software/PLC engineers, mechanical engineers, and project teams
* Assist with testing, validation, and commissioning of systems on-site
* Ensure compliance with relevant electrical and safety standards
Your Profile
* Proven experience as a Hardware Controls Engineer within automation, robotics, or machinery environments
* Strong background in electrical design for industrial control systems
* Experience with EPLAN or similar electrical design tools
* Knowledge of PLC-controlled environments and industrial communication networks
* Familiar with safety circuits, control panels, and machine directives
* Able to work independently and take ownership of technical deliverables
* Dutch-speaking (required for internal communication and documentation)
