FPGA ENGINEER - LOUVAIN-LA-NEUVE (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
The FPGA Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing high-performance digital systems using Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). This role focuses on hardware description language (HDL) programming, primarily VHDL, to create robust, efficient, and scalable digital designs for a range of applications such as embedded systems, communications, industrial automation, or signal processing.
The FPGA Engineer collaborates closely with hardware, software, and systems teams to translate system requirements into functional FPGA designs, perform simulations and verification, and support integration and production.
The role requires hands-on experience with FPGA architectures, timing analysis, and design optimization, as well as a solid understanding of digital logic, verification methodologies, and embedded system design principles.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop FPGA designs using VHDL (primary) and/or Verilog, implementing digital logic, data processing, and control functions
* Design and implement high-speed interfaces, memory controllers, and custom IP cores
* Optimize FPGA designs for performance, area, and power efficiency
* Create and maintain block diagrams, RTL code, and design documentation
* Develop and execute simulation and verification strategies to validate functionality and timing
* Use simulation tools and testbenches to identify and debug design issues
* Perform static timing analysis, synthesis, and place-and-route to ensure design integrity
* Collaborate with hardware and software teams to perform system-level integration and testing
* Interface FPGA designs with microcontrollers, processors, sensors, and other digital or analog peripherals
* Support system integration, hardware bring-up, and debugging in laboratory or field environments
* Assist in the development of firmware and drivers as required for FPGA-controlled systems
Qualifications & Skills
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
* Strong experience in FPGA design and development using VHDL (required)
* Familiarity with Verilog is a plus
* Hands-on experience with FPGA development tools (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, ModelSim)
* Solid understanding of digital design principles, timing analysis, and signal integrity
* Experience with high-speed interfaces, memory systems, and embedded processing
* Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills
The Offer:
* A permanent, full-time employment contract
* A salary & benefits package commensurate with experience
