We Are The Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides independent, evidence-based knowledge and science, supporting EU policies to positively impact society.
The current vacancy is in the Central Intellectual Property Service team in the Legal Affairs and Central IP Service Unit of the Directorate for Strategy and Impact.
The Central IP Service consists of 9 IP lawyers and a paralegal, and serves all Commission DGs and Services. It is tasked with the provision of legal advice on IP matters, management of the EC IP portfolio of trade marks and patents, and raising awareness on IP issues with EC staff. Giving advice in relation to copyright protected IP assets (publications, software, data, illustrations, audio-visual works) is a substantial part of the work of the team. The Central IP Service also assists the Commission’s Legal Service in IP litigation.
The main purpose of this post is to provide legal analysis of intellectual property cases at the EC, in particular copyright related. Prepare and negotiate intellectual property contracts, including licensing, reply to the requests for support from the IP Helpdesk, in particular on copyright issues, including clearance of software and contribute to raising awareness on IP amongst EC staff.

We Propose A position as Legal Officer in the field of Intellectual Property. The jobholder will mainly have the following tasks:
Provide Commission staff with an analysis and legal advice in the field of intellectual property, in particular in relation to copyright, including software clearances.
Prepare and give training on intellectual property issues.
Draft IP contract and clauses.
We Look For Enthusiastic and open-minded, the successful candidate should have followed a full cycle of university studies in law, with a specialisation in IP law, and have at least two years of experience in advising on IP matters, in particular copyright.
Good drafting and communication skills and a good knowledge of English (C1) is necessary.
Good knowledge of open source software licensing constitutes an asset.
