Key Responsibilities
* Operational Management: Oversee the waste collection and disposal processes within the district, ensure adequate staffing, and maintain efficient operations to minimize downtime and maximize service coverage.
* Team Leadership: Supervise operations staff, provide training on safety and best practices, conduct performance evaluations, and ensure adherence to company standards.
* Health & Safety: Ensure strict compliance with health and safety regulations, monitor disposal practices, and resolve incidents related to safety or compliance issues.
* Customer Service: Manage customer relationships, address complaints promptly, and maintain effective communication regarding schedules and service changes.
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations, maintain accurate records, and support internal audits.
* Budget Management: Prepare and manage the district’s operational budget, monitor costs for equipment, fuel, and personnel, and optimize efficiency.
* Continuous Improvement: Implement strategies to improve waste diversion, recycling rates, and sustainability efforts, analyzing data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
* Technology & Systems: Utilize waste‑management software to track collections and routes, and explore new technologies to streamline operations and enhance service delivery.
Skills & Qualifications
* Strong leadership and team‑management skills.
* Problem‑solving ability for operational challenges.
* Familiarity with local waste‑management and environmental regulations.
* Experience managing budgets and optimizing costs.
* Excellent communication skills for liaising with staff, customers, and regulators.
* Experience in logistics management, transportation, and scheduling systems.
Education & Experience
* A degree in business management, environmental science, or related field, or equivalent post‑secondary education.
* Experience in the waste‑management industry or operations management.
* At least 5 years of multi‑site oversight with 2–5 direct reports.
* Active contract and communication experience with municipalities and/or government.
* Experience in budget and financial analysis.
