Contract in CDI/ Permanent role/ Employee (no freelancer for this opportunity).
Position Overview The Engineering Manager (Desktop/Web Platforms) plays a pivotal leadership role in this transformation.
This role is a technical people-leadership and engineering accountability role.
It is not a Product Owner, Project Manager, Scrum Master, or Tech Lead role.
The Engineering Manager partners closely with Architecture, Tech Leads, DevOps, V&V, QA, Regulatory Affairs, Product, and Delivery Management to ensure teams deliver medical-grade software safely, predictably, and at scale.
The primary purpose of this role is to:
Build and sustain high-performing engineering teams
Ensure predictable, high-quality execution
Strengthen engineering maturity and standards adoption
Reduce delivery risk and technical ambiguity
Ensure compliance Quality Management System (QMS) and regulatory obligations
Profile / Requirements Master degree in Engineering / Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering.
Demonstrated, senior-level experience leading engineering teams responsible for complex, long-lived, production software where failure has material business, safety, or regulatory consequences.
Proven record of people leadership over execution: you build, scale, and correct teams through expectations, systems, and accountability—not by being the smartest engineer in the room.
Unambiguous experience hiring, developing, and performance-managing engineers, including senior engineers and Tech Leads; comfortable making hard calls to protect team and product integrity.
Sufficient technical depth to challenge architectural, quality, and delivery decisions credibly, without acting as the architect, Tech Lead, or primary implementer.
Direct exposure to regulated, safety-critical, or audit-driven software environments; understands traceability, reproducibility, documentation, and compliance as first-class engineering concerns, not overhead.
Demonstrated ability to deliver predictably in environments with conflicting priorities, incomplete information, and regulatory constraints, using disciplined planning and risk management rather than optimism.
Proven capability to operate in global, distributed organisations, aligning teams across sites, time zones, and cultures while maintaining consistent engineering standards.
Strong executive judgment: able to make, explain, and defend difficult trade-offs that prioritise long-term engineering health, patient safety, and organisational credibility over short-term wins.
Ability to represent engineering reality clearly and without dilution to Directors, VPs, and cross-functional leaders, including transparent communication of risks, constraints, and consequences.
Demonstrated intolerance for weak engineering discipline, hero-driven execution, and ambiguity in ownership or decision-making
High personal standards for integrity, accountability, and professionalism in a medical or safety-critical context.
Excellent command of technical English; precise, concise, and credible in written and verbal communication.
Willingness to travel as required to maintain alignment, trust, and execution across global teams.
Advanced degree in Software Engineering or a closely related discipline, demonstrating depth in software design, systems thinking, and long-term technical decision-making.
Demonstrated experience designing, evolving, or governing complex software architectures in regulated or safety-critical environments (medical devices strongly preferred), with clear understanding of design-for-quality, traceability, and auditability.
Strong working knowledge of applicable medical-device or safety-critical regulations, with practical experience embedding compliance into everyday engineering practices rather than treating it as a downstream activity.
Credible understanding of modern AI/ML concepts and their application boundaries, risks, and governance considerations in regulated software systems (not hands-on model building, but informed leadership and judgment).
Demonstrated ability to anticipate future technology shifts and guide teams through adoption decisions responsibly, balancing innovation with safety, maintainability, and regulatory expectations.
Build senior leadership judgment by owning engineering direction, quality posture, and delivery capability where compliance and reliability are mandatory.
Operate at executive level, balancing technology, regulation, delivery risk, and long-term organisational health with Directors and VPs.
