Are you passionate about technology and innovation? We are looking for a Senior R&D Engineer to join our Global Power Electronics R&D team within the High Voltage business unit at Hitachi Energy. You will be a part of the Technology Centre - Power & Industry Components located in Västerås, Sweden or Jumet, Belgium.
As part of our international and cross-functional team—comprising experienced experts and emerging talents—you will play a key role in developing next-generation power electronic products. Innovation is at the core of Hitachi Energy, and our Technology Centers are constantly pushing boundaries to enable a sustainable energy future for all.
We are responsible for developing power electronic converter platforms and products (ranging from 30 kW to 2 MW) that address power quality challenges in the low-voltage market, including active harmonic filtering, voltage and power factor control, and battery storage solutions.
How you’ll make an impact
1. Lead the development and implementation of digital closed-loop control systems for new converter platforms.
2. Contribute to the end-to-end design process: from concept and simulation to circuit, and control system design, prototyping, and product verification.
3. Collaborate on the development of hardware control circuitry and define control system limits.
4. Perform modeling and simulation of power converters and define optimal control strategies for various converter topologies and control functions.
5. Lead R&D projects or work packages with a structured, results-driven approach; document outcomes in technical reports, presentations, patents, or publications.
6. Contribute to innovation by proposing new R&D initiatives and support with R&D process improvements.
7. Support global R&D teams in delivering high-quality results, while fostering knowledge sharing. Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, suppliers, and external stakeholders.

Your Background
9. M.Sc., Ph.D. or Post-doc in Power Electronics, with relevant experience in converter & control system development.
10. Strong skills in both static and dynamic modeling of power electronic inverters.
11. Proficient in modern control theory and its application to power electronic systems.
12. Expertise in embedded systems and digital control implementation using DSPs and FPGAs.
13. Hands-on experience in building and testing power electronic converter systems, ideally with SiC-based designs.
14. Knowledge of grid codes, power systems, electromagnetic modeling, and EMI/EMC is an advantage.
15. Experience with power semiconductors is a plus.
16. Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
17. Self-motivated, curious, and eager to learn new technologies.
