We're seeking a Senior Data Solution Architect (Freelance) to join our client's mission-critical data platform initiative in Brussels. This is your opportunity to architect the backbone of a modern, secure, and scalable data ecosystem that will shape the future of health data management.
Why This Role Matters
Our client is embarking on a transformative journey to design and implement a next-generation data platform. As the Senior Data Solution Architect, you will define the Solution Building Blocks (SBB) that turn high-level vision into actionable, modular technology. Your work will directly impact how sensitive health data is managed, protected, and leveraged for innovation — ensuring the platform is robust, future-proof, and cost-effective in a funding-constrained environment.
What You'll Be Doing
* Draft the SBB (Solution Building Blocks) architecture design, translating abstract patterns into concrete, modular solutions.
* Integrate and build upon the existing ABB (Architecture Building Blocks) to ensure alignment with business and technical objectives.
* Engage with stakeholders to collect and clarify detailed technical requirements.
* Specify products, components, and technologies to implement required functionalities, balancing open source and commercial options.
* Conduct technology watch and maintain awareness of relevant products and vendors.
* Assess the current IT landscape, including shadow IT, to inform architecture decisions.
* Define implementation strategies, mapping SBBs to IT topology and operational policies.
* Detail performance expectations, configurability, and ensure cost-efficiency.
* Act as the "memory" of the data platform, bridging business needs with technical execution and ongoing maintenance.
What We're Looking For
* Proven experience as a Solution Architect in data platform infrastructure and network environments.
* Comprehensive knowledge of software, middleware, hardware, networks, security, and data protection.
* Technology-agnostic mindset with the ability to evaluate on-premises, cloud, and hybrid solutions.
* Experience with both open source and commercial technologies.
* Objective, pragmatic, and implementation-focused approach — no dogma, just results.
* Autonomous, proactive, and able to take full ownership of outcomes.
* Experience with health data or other sensitive personal data is a strong plus.

* Data & information architecture

* Data protection & privacy expertise, including cloud solutions
* Data warehouse design (Kimball dimensional modeling, Data Vault)
* Data warehousing

Language Proficiency
* English: Active knowledge (spoken and written)
* Dutch: Active knowledge
* French: Active knowledge
Other Requirements
* Freelance position – 4 months, full time
* On-site in Brussels (minimum 3 days per week at client site, up to 2 days remote)
* Immediate availability for knowledge transfer and project start
* Experience in public sector or health sector projects is a plus
