VDL Bus Roeselare is the center of excellence for electric buses within the VDL Group, building the future of public transport. Based on our new site in Roeselare, we deliver zero-emission vehicles to customers in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, North France and beyond.
Responsibilities As Afdelingshoofd Validatie, ensure all vehicles and changes meet functional, quality and safety requirements in line with national and international laws and regulations. Homologation (approval) is the absolute priority.
Manage the complete certification process: from monitoring legislation to obtaining type approval. Lead a team of testers and homologation specialists and act as the main contact for validation and test activities.
Responsibilities and tasks are grouped into three blocks:
Regulation & Advisory
Analyze new European legislation and translate into concrete product requirements
Determine actions in consultation with homologation coordinators and certification bodies
Organize and clearly advise internal teams on: legal obligations and consequences of non-compliance, regulatory and approval questions, test activities and homologation issues
Testing & Certification
Process coordination: manage and follow the full testing (internal or with external parties) and certification workflow
Lead testers responsible for evaluating adjustments to the drive line and vehicle
Conduct or coordinate tests and simulations to verify compliance with legal requirements
Coordinate and support approvals for components and systems
Conduct or initiate product audits (COP)
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare, manage and apply for vehicle type approvals, authorizations and exemptions
Ensure all documentation is current, correct, complete and compliant with type-approval requirements
Accurately calculate weights and vehicle configurations
Manage and issue chassis numbers and registrations
Maintain close collaboration with engineering, quality, testing, documentation and software teams
Coordinate with project managers, suppliers, customers, importers, authorities and certification bodies
Report to Head of Engineering on progress, quality and results
Profile Bachelor/Master in (Automotive) Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent by experience)
Experience as an engineer in testing, validation or quality management, preferably in automotive or industrial environments
Knowledge of relevant laws, homologation and audits
Strong analytical and communication skills
Accurate, result-oriented and detail-focused
Languages: Dutch (native), English (fluent both spoken and written). German is a plus
