We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to support a major digital transformation initiative within one of Belgium’s most prominent banking institutions.
Logistics:
* Position: Freelance Senior Java Developer
* Duration: 12-month rolling contract (extensions expected)
* Location: Brussels (Hybrid - 2 days on-site per week)
* Start Date: Mid-November
* Day Rate: €(Competitive & Negotiable)
* Languages: English (Dutch or French is a plus)
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services using Java (Spring Framework)
* Translate functional requirements into clean, high-quality, maintainable code
* Build and secure RESTful APIs and integrate with third-party systems
* Evolve and migrate legacy systems into modern Java-based platforms
* Collaborate closely with analysts, testers, and fellow developers in an Agile squad
* Drive performance, reliability, and security through unit testing, code reviews, and refactoring
* Participate in CI/CD pipelines and help shape DevOps best practices
* Contribute to a culture of clean code, pair programming, and continuous improvement
Ideal Candidate:
* 4+ years of professional experience in Java backend development
* Strong grasp of Object-Oriented Programming, SOLID principles, and domain-driven design
* Experience with Spring, Maven, Oracle DB, and REST APIs
* Familiarity with tools like Git, Jenkins, SonarQube, Fortify, and NexusIQ
* Proactive communicator who enjoys collaborative problem-solving in Agile teams
* Committed to writing readable, testable, and maintainable code (TDD experience is a plus)
* Experience with code reviews, pair programming, and Scrum methodologies
* Strong sense of ownership and eagerness to contribute to team success
Desirable:
* Experience with modern CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines
* Background in regulated sectors such as banking, insurance, or telecom
* Knowledge of containerization, cloud deployments, or large-scale integrations
* Exposure to event-driven systems, although not mandatory
