Description:
The Stantec Center of Expertise in Communications and Stakeholder Engagement provides a full spectrum of Communications and stakeholder engagement services, supporting climate and energy policy outreach. We approach stakeholder engagement in an integrated manner to ensure that communication and European policy strategies are closely coordinated with and support the technical components of the project. Our communication projects are focused on Sustainable Agriculture, Clean Energy, Energy Transition, Climate Change, Nature and Biodiversity, and Circular Economy and aim at raising wider awareness and understanding of related European policies.
Stantec’s Belgium office is the headquarters of our European Institutions unit. We provide project management support to EU institutions such as the European Commission (EC), EU executive agencies (e.g. CINEA), the European Investment Bank (EIB), but also some EU bilateral donors. We combine expertise in providing sustainable solutions to Climate change and energy transition challenges in the EU and in partners countries.
We employ and partner with a diverse network of communication experts, Energy experts, Climate scientists, and environmental specialists. They help us bridge the gap between sectoral expertise and the need for efficient, impactful, and clear messages. They enable us to deliver communication expertise in those specific areas where we have been active over the last 20 years, namely environment, climate change, water, and energy-related sectors.
Stantec has assumed many leadership roles and provided a complete range of management services for Communications on the Global Climate Change Alliance+, EUROCLIMA, the project EU Leading the Global Energy Transition and is currently implementing Communication and event support to the LIFE Programme. In addition, Stantec supports the Foreign Partnership Instruments (FPI) for online communications and event management.
We are currently seeking to recruit a full-time (m/f)
Communication & Visibility Officer to join our international and dynamic Belgian unit to support our growth and ambition in Communications and Stakeholder Engagement services led by the Centre of Expertise in Communications.
The Communication and Visibility Officer will be part of the Center of Expertise in Communications and Stakeholder Engagement. She/he will be involved in the implementation of the communication activities covered by different contracts.
The expert will also contribute to tender proposals and support the Communication & Visibility Director with research desk, contacts with potential partners, and the drafting of communication strategies.
Responsibilities
1. Design, implement and update as needed communication and stakeholder engagement strategies and related communication work plan of ongoing projects and tender opportunities.
2. Definition of objectives and impact. Generate creative ideas that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound, ensuring localisation towards audiences (geography, language, behaviours and expectations).
3. Support the Contracting authority with the identification of core messages to underpin the communication on the projects, perform target group and stakeholders’ analysis and identify key target audiences and stakeholders to engage with, etc. producing calendar of actions and key performance indicators.
4. Contribute to the development of the project’s deliverables including preparation of briefings, press releases, newsletters, statistics on the programmes, annual or specific publications, flyers and posters, videos, technical studies, lesson learning reviews, projects’ websites.
5. Prepare background documents and training materials for learning and policy events, workshop, training of trainer’s sessions related to areas of support.
6. Dissemination and promotion activities of the content produced (toolkits, EU branded material, podcasts, press material) through the upload on online platforms, the creation of editorial calendar for social media publication and contacts with stakeholders.
7. When appropriate, ensure the use of conventional communication channels (events, press, TV and radio) as well as innovative social media technologies and platforms (social media, media partnerships, social videos) in order to raise awareness on projects activities.
8. Ensure regular monitoring and reviews of projects, as necessary. Strengthening the communication of the programmes, as well as their knowledge management by ensuring a systematic collection and sharing of products and best practice.
9. Contribute to business proposals within Stantec’s core sectors (energy, environment, climate change, digital), ensuring alignment with EU funding programmes and tendering opportunities.
10. Work within a team of consultants, reports to the Communication & Visibility Director or assigned colleague.
Qualifications:
Applicants should as a minimum have the following qualifications and demonstrate the following skills:
11. University degree in a relevant discipline such as Journalism, Communication, Marketing or/and Sustainable Agriculture, Environment, Energy or Climate studies, etc; Master’s degree is an advantage, or equivalent experience.
12. At least 5 years of relevant experience as communication in a communication agency, a think-tank, a EU-funded project, a European association, a federation or a public institution.
13. Comprehensive knowledge of EU communication & information activities, EU Web guidelines, GDPR and IPR requirements is an asset.
14. Experience of working independently with various stakeholders, notably donors, public authorities, international companies, at EU level in relevant sectors.
15. Experience in advisory services for appropriate communication approach.
16. Experience in preparing communication products and relevant material, i.e. newsletters, press releases, factsheets, etc.
17. Native-level or equivalent English knowledge, knowledge of another EU language is an advantage.
18. Good communication skills and demonstrated experience in facilitating dialogue and communication.
19. Good understanding of one of the thematic fields of environment, circular economy, climate change, clean energy transition, nature & biodiversity, or sustainable agriculture.
20. Demonstrated experience of contributing to EU tenders.
