About Wequity

Wequity (wequity.company) is a Legal AI / RegTech company. Our team members work together to build technology that transforms how legal professionals work. Our projects use AI and data science to make legal processes more efficient, accessible, and reliable.


Your Mission

As CTO, you will define and execute the technical vision for Wequity, with a primary focus on scaling Nora (nora.legal), our AI-powered platform for notary practices. You will lead our engineering function, making key architectural decisions, building the team, and ensuring we deliver reliable, innovative products that meet the needs of legal professionals.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be a core member of the leadership team, translating company strategy into technical roadmaps and ensuring engineering efforts align with business objectives. As an early executive, you will have significant influence over company direction, culture, and growth trajectory.

The current tech stack is Python-based with cloud infrastructure on GCP. We are still early in our journey with many things we want to build—you will shape not only what we build but how we build it.


Outcomes
* Define and own the technical vision and architecture across all products
* Build, lead, and mentor the engineering team as we scale
* Translate business strategy into technical roadmaps and ensure alignment between product and engineering
* Make key technology decisions (build vs. buy, architecture, tooling, infrastructure)
* Lead AI/LLM initiatives for legal document processing, extraction, and RAG systems
* Ensure production reliability, security, and scalability of our cloud infrastructure
* Manage technical debt, development velocity, and engineering best practices
* Represent the technical function to investors, partners, and clients when needed


Requirements


Skills – Must-have
* Technical Leadership. Proven experience leading engineering teams and making high-stakes architectural decisions. Ability to balance long-term vision with pragmatic execution.
* Strategic Communication. Excellent communicator who can bridge technical and business stakeholders, present to investors, and translate complex concepts for non-technical audiences.
* Python & Backend Systems. Deep expertise in Python-based architectures, APIs, and asynchronous workflows.
* Cloud & Infrastructure. Strong experience designing, deploying, and operating production systems at scale on cloud platforms.
* AI/ML & Document Processing. Hands-on experience with LLMs, document processing pipelines, extraction, and RAG systems. Ability to evaluate emerging AI technologies and make informed build/buy decisions.
* Team Building. Track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineering talent. Experience establishing engineering culture and best practices.
* Product Sense. Strong product intuition—able to scope, prioritize, and make tradeoffs that balance technical excellence with business impact.
* AI-Assisted Development. Thoughtful approach to AI development tools (Cursor, etc.)—understanding their strengths, limitations, and how to leverage them effectively across a team.
* English. Fluent in spoken and written English.
* Even if you don't have experience in all these areas but are excited about building a category-defining Legal AI company, we'd love to hear from you.


Skills – Nice-to-have
* Google Cloud Platform. Deep experience with GCP (Cloud Run, etc.)
* Supabase. Knowledge of Supabase (auth, storage, Postgres, RLS, etc.)
* Full-Stack Awareness. Frontend knowledge (React) or ability to collaborate effectively with frontend developers
* Advanced LLM Systems. Experience with production LLM pipelines, embeddings, vector databases, cost/quota management at scale
* DevOps & CI/CD. Experience with GitHub Actions, Docker, infrastructure-as-code
* Startup Experience. Prior experience as a technical co-founder, CTO, or VP Engineering at an early-stage company
* Legal/RegTech Domain. Familiarity with legal technology, compliance, or regulated industries
* Higher Education. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
