About the Role
We’re partnering with a high-growth fintech company in West Flanders that is transforming the financial services landscape through innovative, technology-driven and SaaS-based solutions. As the business continues to scale, they are looking for a Chief Accountant to take ownership of core accounting operations and help build a robust, future-proof finance function.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will combine technical accounting expertise with process improvement and automation, working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee end-to-end accounting operations for Belgian entities
Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Prepare and review statutory financial statements (BE GAAP) and support IFRS reporting where applicable
Ensure full VAT compliance and regulatory reporting, including fintech/digital services considerations
Act as the primary contact for auditors, tax advisors, and external stakeholders
Supervise and mentor a small accounting team, driving performance and development
Strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures in a fast-scaling environment
Lead process optimisation and automation initiatives, including ERP and finance systems improvements
Collaborate with FP&A and business teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis
Oversee and enhance revenue recognition processes, particularly for SaaS and subscription models
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics
7–10+ years of experience in accounting, with at least initial leadership exposure
Strong knowledge of BE GAAP (IFRS is a plus)
Experience in fintech, SaaS, or tech environments is highly preferred
Proven experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Exact)
Solid understanding of VAT and Belgian statutory requirements
Experience with automation and process improvement is a strong advantage
Fluent in Dutch and English (French is a plus)
Hands-on, structured, and able to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment
